Literally everyone quoted in this article is a leftist activist of some kind. Of course they're unhappy. They're no longer in charge. They had their new found impotence and irrelevance. But they are vicious, malevolent people; they won't go down without a fight.

NBC News entire "misinformation" unit is built around that; it's there MO. Taylor Lorenz's job at WaPo is to do the same thing. Find a bunch of progressive activists, don't identify them as such, then cover them in the respectability of her outlet and thus make them seem neutral.
They've gotten away with it for a long time. But Musk has no respect for their pieties and norms. He won't think of the children. He's a threat to their hegemony over the information apparat. They can't stand it. And they've reacted accordingly.
