Why Wuhan was a ghost town during that period?
There is a “correlation between the number of individuals who travelled to the event and the number of COVID-19 cases in the country to which they returned”
ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/P…And several preliminary studies point to a circulation of SARS2 in several countries by the end of 2019.

It is urgent to verify them and continue the screening in other countries (China included)
BTW
@Michael Worobey, the Huanan market was a mini super-spreading location in comparison
The timing of the Military Games fits with most molecular clock analyses and it does not preclude an origin in China.
Instead to speculate about phantomatic racoon dogs at the Huanan market as origin of the pandemic, a proper analysis of human and environmental samples collected in 2019 in China and other countries would give the answer.
The whole story is very strange: "The Pentagon’s reluctance to test athletes returning from Wuhan was not unique. No other nation’s military appears to have tested their participants in the 2019 World Military Games specifically for COVID-19."
