One Piece episode 1028. PEAK FICTION, GOAT, RAW, FIRE!
Those words uttered by a fellow cultured One Piece enjoyer is what best describe this week's latest installment of One Piece's anime adaptation. This is without question the pinnacle of Koyama Cinema.
Ladies and gentlemen, Naotoshi Shida is definitely back in town and there's no better scene for one of the series' most iconic key animators to make yet another very bold statement other than on Luffy's advanced conqueror's haki clash with Kaido.
Tag teaming with a man of the stature like Shida, one of the japanese animation industry's finest foreign animators has decided to give our eyes a 5 star meal in the form of an outrageously ridiculous yet spectacular fighting sequence. Vincent Chansard you absolute crazy man!
What a suspiciously funny frame this is.
Vincent Chansard always makes sure to give to us who like partaking in the activity of "impact frame gazing" a lot of material.
The first frame could literally be put on the wall of a fancy art museum and it wouldn't even feel out of place.
And if that wasn't enough, Shuu Sugita, the man who gifted the series one of the absolutely best animated sequences in the entire franchize, has also made a much awaited comeback on this episode and this lunatic tried to prematurely murder the Wano arc's main antagonist.
There are only a few men on this earth capable of giving Vincent Chansard a run for his mony when it comes to impact frames, but little did the whippersnapper know know that Shuu Sugita also made an appearance on this week's episode.
Of course, I also can't talk about this episode without mentioning the stellar job Yasunori Koyama did storyboarding and directing this episode. I'm so glad that one of the best regular episode directors on the show received another grandiose opportunity to showcase his skill.
This scene in particular perfectly encapsulates what we mean by "Koyama cinema". I think I have never seen Kaido being portrayed as demonically terrifying as an emperor of the seas as in this sequence right here.
Animated by Tatsuya Miki, another surprise appearance.
Even plenty of moments outside of Luffy vs Kaido were very well animated. When episode 1026 aired, I told you to take note of Kohei Hirota's name because he seems to be a very promising KA. Well, he's back again on the show and offered us this brief but cool sequence.
Yeah, I think it's safe to say that the Wano arc has more impact frames than every previous arc in the One Piece anime combined.
Big Mom as well got a chance to look incredibly intimidating in this episode.
