Last month, two Kemp's ridley sea turtles were released by National Aquarium staff and @Senator Chris Van Hollen after months of rehabilitation with our Animal Health and Rescue teams.
Although these critically endangered turtles are a federally protected species, there is a lack of direct funding to support the dozens of organizations that rescue, rehabilitate and release them.
That's why we are working with other members of the Aquarium Conservation Partnership to encourage Congress to pass the Sea Turtle Rescue Assistance Act, which would create a permanent grant program to support organizations that respond to and care for threatened sea turtles.
