2. The direct drive from Nairobi to Watamu is 558 km, and it should take 8 hrs in regular traffic. Meaning for a longer stay you can include Tsavo with an overnight stay and leave the next day. #TheMtembeziDiary

3. Given the Italian influence on the destination, Watamu is sometimes referred to as Kenya's Little Italy. But we stayed at @Medina Palms which features unique Arabian architecture, a tropical garden, and an outdoor swimming pool with sun loungers and views. #TheMtembeziDiary

4. Each morning, we would wake up to the sounds of the ocean, after which the preferred breakfast was a local dish of "Supu was Pweza (Octopus)" with other meals at Seafood Cafe owned by Mariam at the junction of Gede Watamu Rd. #TheMtembeziDiary

5. Afternoons are best spent at Lichthaus within @TemplePointResort which is ideal if you want to chill, have fun and be cool as you laze on hammocks hanging over the creek, sipping on your Prosecco and enjoy the chicken, fish, king prawn, or halloumi. #TheMtembeziDiary

6. An evening sundowner is a must-do with either a whole dhow with friends or book a couple of seats as you enjoy a moveable heavenly experience through the stunning backdrop of Mida Creek. We took the Captain Sammy dhow for this one. #TheMtembeziDiary

7. Papa Remo Beach hosts a beach party every Saturday and serves daily freshly caught fish from which amazing pasta dishes, authentic Italian pizza, and amazing cocktails can be enjoyed with your toes in the sand. #TheMtembeziDiary

8. The main dining establishment at Medina Palms is called Amandina, and it provides a pleasant dining experience while being elevated above the treetops and cooled by the ocean breeze. #TheMtembeziDiary

9. Other activities include Bio Ken Snake Farm, Gedi Ruins, Arabuko Sokoke National Park, Deep-Sea Fishing, Glass Bottom Boat. For shopping, there is Blue Marmalade a well-stocked mini-supermarket. Non Solo Gelato offers the best Gelati & Italian breakfasts. #TheMtembeziDiary
