It occurs to me there must have been purist Gundam fans pissed off about 0080's mobile suit design when it came out. "OH, so we're back in the One Year War, but SOMEHOW every single mobile suit is one we've never seen before!?"

I know it's long been fan speculation that the 0080 designs were meant to be modernized, stylized versions of classic MS designs. I believe this has been contradicted by official sources, but it's interesting at least that SD Gundam Mk IV does exactly that twitter.com/TomAznable/sta…

A lot of what we take for granted as fans probably had its share of controversy initially. @BJ Beauchamp has shared plenty of Japanese fanmail contemporary to classic Gundam shows that cried out "This isn't Gundam!"

I think the Advance of Zeta suits have a really strong aesthetic but have largely felt out of place in the broader UC Gundam look past the initial Hizack and Hazel variants.
