Now that I've poured out my heart and shed some painful tears, I feel I need to point something out, something important.
There are a lot of American veterans volunteering in Ukraine. A lot of veterans from other free nations as well. Why?
The answer is one that only a veteran can truly understand, because the answer is found in the heart and soul of every honorable veteran. A lesson the GOP needs to understand.
We do it because Freedom is that important to us. Important enough to give up our lives.
Ukraine is not the USA, not the UK, not Finland, not Poland, etc. Yet veterans from these nations and more fight and die in Ukraine. Why is it that important to us? It isn't OUR freedom, after all.
And yet it is. THEY ARE US. Every free nation was not always free.
And our freedom has had to be fought for, for some nations over and over. This is the constant struggle that all free peoples must face. Freedom is earned, and sadly the price is always paid in blood.
That means no matter where the fight is, all free peoples must step forward.
Veterans know this, have paid that price before. So it may be in Ukraine this time, but it is still the same fight, the same war. And damned if we'll let anyone steal freedom away while we still draw breath.
It isn't just Ukraine's war. It is OUR war.
