The Polish move to acquire K2s from South Korea is designed to create a whole production chain in Poland and several other EU states that would eventually produce a tank for the European market that is cheaper and can be manufactured faster than Rheinmetall's Panther project
Decisions made by the German government now may play a long term role in determining whether a Polish K2 tank manufacturing project can gain a big slice of European market share that used to by dominated by Germany's Rheinmetall
Just noticed I've scrambled the point a bit. Leopard2s are Kraus-Maffei, Rheinmetall is working on Panther as well as projects with Kraus Maffei and Nexter. Point about the K2 stands though. Poland developing that project is a very interesting dynamic in European arms production
