#taekookau where— Taehyung is looking forward to his first valentine's day with his husband, and plans to make it memorable for him. He becomes disheartened when his surprise gets ruined. But Jungkook isn't going to let him be upset for long.

a valentine drabble set in the same universe as this; twitter.com/moonlitvk/stat…
#taekookau where;— As a lawyer, Taehyung is used to handling everything in a calm and composed manner. However, his husband, model Jungkook is an expert at making things difficult for him.
an: this is a prequel to the main drabble of this series
Taehyung softly nods, his lips pouting in anticipation, as he waits for the results after searching /what should I get my husband for our first Valentine's Day/.
It would be an understatement to say that he's excited for today. He wants to make it special for Jungkook and create happy memories for both of them to look back at in the future, years later from now.
Some might wonder why he is planning a Valentine's Day gift for his husband, especially since they had an arranged marriage and don't even love each other. It's because Taehyung doesn't want it to be like this forever.
He wishes to fall in love with Jungkook and make him fall in love with him as well. Taehyung knows he should probably think something up on his own as he won't find the most original ideas on the internet.
But it's been more than a decade since the last time he celebrated valentines. It was with his middle school boyfriend who broke up with him when Taehyung accidentally threw a basketball on his face and broke his nose. He winces at the memory.
Taehyung returns his gaze to the screen as the search results appear. 𝘙𝘰𝘴𝘦𝘴 He scrolls past it without thinking twice. Jungkook's allergic to roses, so he can't give them to him.
𝘊𝘩𝘰𝘤𝘰𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘴 Taehyung sighs and shakes his head. Disappointed. What is it about chocolates that makes someone want to give them to their partner on Valentine's Day? He feels bad for whoever received them as a gift.
𝘊𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘴 Taehyung's eyes sparkle as he reads the next option, a smile tugging on his lips. A cake seems like the best option, and given Jungkook's sweet tooth, Taehyung's sure he'll love it.
To make it extra special, he'll even bake it himself. He settles on a simple white vanilla cake after thinking for sometime.
What if Taehyung has never baked anything before? There's a first time for everything. He's certain he can do it after watching some online videos. It can't be that hard. Moreover, what could possibly go wrong with baking a simple cake, other than it getting a little burnt?
Taehyung closes his laptop, packs his belongings, and takes his car keys. He calls his secretary and asks her to clear his schedule for today because he is leaving early. On his way home, he stops at the supermarket to get the ingredients for the cake.
While picking up milk, Taehyung's eyes fall on the banana milk in the next row and he decides to buy one carton for Jungkook as he has often seen him drinking it. He believes he knows this only because he's an observant person and nothing else.
It's not like he notices every little thing about Jungkook. He's a busy man doesn't have time for things like that. Taehyung pays for the stuff and hurriedly drives, eager to surprise his husband. He giggles to himself thinking about how Jungkook will react.
Will he be happy? Shocked? Or will he blush? Jungkook looks the prettiest when he blushes, his cheeks turning pink, his hands covering his ears and little giggles slipping past his lips.
It's unfortunate that Jungkook doesn't blush easily. Taehyung sighs dreamily, hoping that it will happen tonight.
He balances all the shopping bags in one hand while opening the door to their apartment with the other. Taehyung sets the bags on the kitchen counter and goes to wash his hands.
He puts on an apron, deciding to change his clothes later after taking a bath when he's done with the cake. Before beginning, he takes out all of the ingredients so that they are within reach when he needs them.
Taehyung smiles, adding eggs to the cream, sugar, and butter mixture, briefly beating them after each addition. Except for crushing an egg in his hands, which was a minor mishap, nothing has gone wrong till now. He can see his mission of making the perfect cake getting closer.
He picks up the flour packet and flips it twice just because he can. Taehyung hums to himself as he ditches the scissors in the favour of ripping it open with his bare hands.
As a gust of flour lands on his face, he comes to a halt, his eyes closing on their own. Tears well up in Taehyung's eyes as he splutters in an attempt to get the flour out of his mouth.
Taehyung wipes his face with the back of his hands, grimacing as the rough substance rubs against his skin, stinging the little shaving cuts he had in the process. He places the open packet on the counter and walks over to the sink to wash his face.
Another minor mishap, he thinks to himself while patting his face dry with a towel, eyes fixed on the mess he has already made; it's not like Jungkook will ever know about any of these.
Half an hour later, Taehyung finally has a cake pan filled to the brim with the sweet tasting batter and the microwave on to preheat before he bakes the cake. He pulls out his phone to look at some frosting ideas in the meantime.
But frowns when he realises he forgot to get supplies for it. He rushes outside, heading to the store down the street to get the things he needs to decorate his cake.
As Taehyung walks out the elevator, pleased with the happy valentine cake topper and red heart shaped sprinkles, he finds Jungkook standing in front of their apartment. His eyes widen, panic rising as he watches his husband taking the spare keys out of his wallet.
No, no, no. Taehyung cannot let Jungkook go inside right now. It will ruin his surprise.
With a few big steps, he quickly covers the distance between them. "Hi," he says, giving his most charming smile as he greets his husband, hiding the shopping bag behind his hands.
Jungkook flinches at the sound of his voice, the keys falling on the ground from his hand and turns around with a hand on his chest. "You scared me," he frowns angrily.
"Sorry" Taehyung sheepishly says, not liking the said frown. "But, Jungkookie, what are you doing here? Did your shoot end early?"
"Shouldn't I be the one asking that. What are you doing here two hours early than usual?" Jungkook asks back rather than giving an answer. He moves forward and looks at Taehyung from top to bottom before narrowing his eyes "That too while wearing an apron over your suit."
The lawyer looks down at himself and curses quietly. "I just bought a new apron and was trying it out" Taehyung mentally pats himself on the back for coming up with an answer so fast.
"It has stains" Jungkook deadpans, smiling. Taehyung opens his mouth to say something but then closes it. As the the model crosses his arms and waits for him to respond, he fidgets with his feet and tries to think of something.
Jungkook patiently watches him, enjoying how adorable Taehyung looks. The truth is that he came early because he wanted to take Taehyung out for a valentine's dinner tonight.
He wanted to do something special for his husband, but he couldn't know much about Taehyung's likes and dislikes in the past two months they've spent together. Though he knows Taehyung's favourite Chinese restaurant and has already reserved their seats there.
The pleasant, comfortable silence surrounding them breaks by a sudden shrill noise. Their neighbours open their doors and rush outside, filling the lobby with shouts and anxious screams.
Jungkook stumbles as someone pushes him aside while running; he shuts his eyes bracing himself for the fall, but strong arms wrap around him and embrace him in a warm hug.
His fear filled eyes look up at Taehyung, shielding him with his body, his stance protective and fierce. The loud continuous beeping of the fire alarm signals everyone to evacuate the building as Taehyung grabs Jungkook's wrist tightly and runs outside.
"The microwave in 3b was left on, and the smoke coming out of it triggered the fire alarms" the fireman informs them after checking the building thoroughly. Taehyung thinks it would have been better if he got caught and burned in a real fire.
He stares down at the ground as people go back to their apartments, some laughing and others whispering curses at him for causing this ruckus. Humiliation burns his entire self as he listens to them all with his head hung low.
When everyone has left, leaving him and Jungkook behind, Taehyung finds himself unable to look in his husband's eyes and decides to slowly walk back inside.
Jungkook pursues his lips and looks at Taehyung's back and then back at where he was standing, the two tears drops clear on the otherwise dry ground. And comes to the conclusion that he doesn't hate anything more than tears in those beautiful brown eyes.
Jungkook follows Taehyung with determined steps, already planning on how to cheer him up and save their first valentine's day.
The dark curtains block the last of the sun rays from entering the room, the sound of little sniffles coming from under the blankets where Taehyung hides. He wonders if Jungkook can hear him from the other side of the closed door? Is he being loud?
What would he think after finding out that Taehyung's crying because of something so small and insignificant? Would he find it pathetic? Taehyung whimpers, his heart sinking at the possibility.
But he can't really help it, he feels humiliated and furthermore his plan to do something special for Jungkook got ruined. It's not insignificant for him. So go ahead and sue him for being emotional. He will win the case anyways.
Turning around, he lies on his back, facing the ceiling. He clenches his fist tightly and tries to relax his facial muscles by taking deep breaths, moving his eyes around and blinking back tears. Doing everything he heard helps in stopping crying.
The door creaks open just in time as his soft sniffles stop. "Taehyung, are you awake?" he hears Jungkook asking.
Taehyung rubs his face with the blanket to get rid of any tear stains before answering with a hum. He watches silently as Jungkook comes near him and leans down.
Though his vision gets obstructed as the model wraps a blindfold around his eyes, he makes a confused sound and tries to remove it, but Jungkook grabs his hands before he could do so. "Shh, easy there. Calm down. I'm not kidnapping you" Jungkook's voice has a hint of amusement
when he says "Now will you come with me or want me to carry you outside" Taehyung scowls despite his ears burning at the image of Jungkook carrying him, with how muscular his husband is he knows he can do it easily.
He walks slowly as Jungkook guides him by a hand on the small of his back, the other firmly holding Taehyung's hand with their fingers interlocking. When Jungkook finally removes his blindfold, Taehyung gasps looking at the sight in front of him.
A massive pillow fort is set in the middle of their living room, decorated by fairy lights that glow in the otherwise dark room and red heart shaped balloons. There is a bottle of wine, a beautiful cake and takeout containers placed inside the fort.
He can smell his favourite lavender and balsam scented candles and knows Jungkook has placed them somewhere in the corner. The whole setup looks like it came straight out of pinterest.
Jungkook bites his lips, curiously waiting for Taehyung's response. After the earlier chaos, he had cancelled their dinner reservations, deciding order takeout instead, and decorated their living room as best as he could in the short time for their indoor valentine's celebration.
When Jungkook doesn't get any response from Taehyung after five minutes, he gently taps Taehyung's shoulder. He stumbles, almost losing his balance as Taehyung swiftly dives into his arms, hugging him tightly and burying his face in Jungkook's chest.
Jungkook smiles, nuzzles his face in Taehyung's hair and wraps his arms around his waist. Finally feeling content, knowing that he has been successful in cheering Taehyung and chasing away the dark clouds of sadness from him.
They both cut the cake together, enjoying the food by feeding each other with shy glances and soft smiles, and share light hearted jokes.
Later that night, they lay inside their pillow fort, cuddling and their legs entangled. "I thought I turned it off before going out," Taehyung says quietly, his fingers playing with Jungkook's, who's lying half over him with his head placed on Taehyung's stomach.
Jungkook raises his head and looks directly into Taehyung's eyes, "You made a mistake just like any other human being. It's not a big deal."
He crawls up and hovers over Taehyung. "And, to be honest, I think it was hilarious. A memory that we can look back on and laugh about in the future. So, baby, stop worrying your pretty head."
Taehyung feels his heart softening at Jungkook's words, he truly lucked out in finding the best husband in the gamble of arrange marriage. "Brat, who are you calling 'baby'? I'm older than you" he says, tucking a strand of Jungkook's hair behind his ear, his voice fond.
Jungkook grins, and squeezes Taehyung's face between his hands, making him look like a fish with his lips puckering out. "Oh! But you're a baby" his eyes shine brightly as pecks Taehyung's lips "my baby."
Taehyung likes, scratch that, he loves being Jungkook's baby. Their lips meet once more in a warm and soft kiss, moving slowly against each other. Marking the end of their first valentine's day together but promising for many more to come in the future.
