POWER IN HANDS OF NIGERIANS, SAYS SDP PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE
Adewole Adebayo, the presidential candidate of SDP, has cast his vote at PU19, Ward 10, Barracks road, Ondo West LGA. Adewole expressed satisfaction with the functionality of the BVAS.
He said: "So far, everything is working well and I just want to urge Nigerians to come out and vote. Government is not powerful today but Nigerians because they are the ones that will vote for the candidate of their choice...

ADAMAWA'S SMALLEST POLLING UNIT?
Polling unit 047, NALDA office, Karewa, Yola north LGA has only 14 registered voters -- and only eight people have voted so far.

SPOTTED: HADI SIRIKA VOTES IN KATSINA

MAKINDE: DEMOCRACY HAS COME TO STAY
Speaking with journalists after voting, Seyi Makinde, Oyo governor, described the exercise as "seamless". "It's going really okay...
...The accreditation process was seamless; people are conducting themselves very well. I think democracy has come to stay in Nigeria," he said.

I'M NOT IMPRESSED, SAYS AKEREDOLU ON VOTER TURNOUT
Rotimi Akeredolu, Ondo state governor, says he is not impressed with the voter turnout. He spoke after casting his vote in ward 5, unit 6, ljebu Owo, his home town.
“Well, I am not too impressed yet with the turnout but I expect that many people will come out," he said. "But we need to be larger than this, I have always voted here. But I know that people are going to come out."
There are reports of thugs allegedly disrupting the voting process in some parts of Lagos. TheCable is however unable to independently confirm the situation at the affected polling units.

Update: Voting is ongoing. The presiding officer, who identified himself as Victor, said the exercise has been hitch-free, and the BVAS is "functioning well".

Update: Amid voting, two vans filled with police officers arrive at the polling unit. The reason for their deployment is not immediately clear.

After two hours on the queue, Nasir el-Rufai, Kaduna state governor, is still waiting to cast his vote at PU024, Anguwan Sarki GRA, Kaduna North LGA.
FOOTBALL TIME -- BUT HAVE THEY VOTED?

Update: Youths have resorted to playing football on the streets of Surulere. Hopefully, after they had exercised their franchise.

Update: There is a high voter turnout in this polling unit. Voting and accreditation are going on smoothly.
LATE ARRIVAL OF ELECTION MATERIALS
Location: Kawaji Jigiriya Special Primary School (30 PUs), Nasarawa LG, Kano.
Update: Voting started about an hour ago as hundreds of residents queued under the sun.
Ibrahim Zaikrullahi, an election observer, said there have been challenges of late arrival of election materials. He said voters came out as early as 7am, and by 1pm, they were yet to vote.
IDPS PERFORM THEIR FRANCHISE
Location: Central A and B, Bangajiya Kuta, Shiroro LGA, Niger state.
Update: Many internally displaced persons (IDPs) have cast their ballots, while some returned to their polling units in Gurmana and Erena wards to vote.
#NIGERIAELECTIONS2023 SO FAR
The presidential election is still ongoing in most parts of the country.
Election materials arrived late in many polling units, resulting in the delayed start of voting.
There were incidents of malfunctions by the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) in several polling units.
While the official figures are yet to be released, there was a considerably high turnout of voters in many parts of the country.
Incidents of voter intimidation were recorded in some states, especially Lagos.
The exercise has been largely peaceful so far, except for pockets of violence in a few polling units.
MBEKI: EVERYBODY ARRIVED LATE
Thabo Mbeki, former South African president, said the late arrival of INEC officials at polling units was widespread.
During his address at the Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room, he said: "The point we are making is that where we went everybody arrived late, and then before they set out everything, it takes a lot of time."
PATIENCE, THE FIRST-TIME VOTER

Update: Bright-eyed and fidgety, Patience, a first-time voter, is nervous about casting her vote.
She has been waiting for over four hours under blazing temperatures, but she is determined to follow through. She told TheCable she is doing it for her “brother”, Samuel Ortom, the governor of Benue, and for "the Igbo man" contesting for president whose name she does not remember

Update: A total of 10 polling units are in this premises and eight of them have stopped voting. Sorting is expected to begin soon. Meanwhile, ECOWAS election observers are present -- to observe.

Update: Voting is still in progress as of 2:45pm. INEC officials moved the polling booth indoors as the drizzle morphed into a light shower.
VOTER RECOUNTS ATTACK AT ETI-OSA, LAGOS
Location: PUs010 & 011, Igbokusu town II, Eti Osa, Lagos.
Update: Adegbite Adefemi, a resident, said around 2pm, "some boys came here, observed the processes, and went away but a few minutes after...
...they came back with clothes tied to their faces and started chasing people all around with machetes," he said.
"They broke ballot boxes and scattered the already used ballot papers."
Kingsley Onyechere, a police officer, confirmed the incident, noting that they were deployed to the PU to curtail the event. "We were called to the areas after the incident happened," he said.

Update: Disorder! Angry voters accuse an INEC official of being partial. The official says BVAS machines have gone off and she is overwhelmed.
Sorting and counting are about to commence at PU02, Ajiya, Gwadabawa ward, Yola north LGA of Adamawa. This is the polling unit of Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the PDP.

DIFFERENT EXPERIENCES FOR PWDs
Location: Mzondu ward, Guma LGA, Benue.
Update: Different PWDs have narrated their experiences. Hannah, an albino and a 30-year-old mother of six, says she wasn’t prioritized as INEC promised.
She told TheCable she stood under the sun for two hours before she cast her vote. She said she felt overlooked.
On the other hand, Eunice, a partially blind grandmother, says she was “properly” assisted. They want to know the winners in the ward before they go home. Voting is still ongoing.

Update: Voting has ended. Sorting and counting about to commence. Over 700 registered voters but only about 170 turned up to vote.

BREAKING: INEC SUSPENDS ELECTION IN POLLING UNITS
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has suspended elections in 141 polling units of Bayelsa state.
Mahmood Yakubu, INEC chairman, said the elections were postponed because the voting process was disrupted.
