The bell chimes by the door, the open space bringing in the muffled noises from the street outside. It seems like it is a busy day. Someone seems to have walked in, but Taehyung is a little busy attending to the customer in front of him to focus on the new arrival.
“Have a good day.” Taehyung bows as the customer walks out with a smile and a bag of the book they had purchased from Taehyung’s small store. Once the door is closed and the initial silence and peace is perceived, Taehyung goes back to organising the files on his computer,
when his eyes fall on the person next to a bookshelf in front of his reception counter. The man quickly averts his eyes upon getting caught, hiding his face in the book he’s holding instead.
The book is currently upside down. Taehyung sighs, tapping away on his computer before he makes his way to the man—who is currently acting like he doesn’t see Taehyung coming his way at all, eyes darting /everywhere/ else except on Taehyung. ‘Such a bad actor.’ Taehyung thinks.
“A tragedy.” Taehyung says, stopping in front of the man and folding his arms. “A plot weaved around murder and revenge.” He even tsks. It seems to have gotten hold of the man’s attention though. “Didn’t take you for a Shakespeare lover.” The man blinks, confused. “Huh?”
Taehyung nods towards the book that the man is holding. “Hamlet. You don’t even know the name of the book you’re supposedly reading?” The man quickly looks at the cover, closes it and puts it back on the shelf. “I seem to have been distracted.” He smiles, and it's charming.
Taehyung /almost/ smiles at the bashfulness oozing out of the man’s smile. Keyword being almost. “I figured that out at least.” Taehyung smiles, a little amused. Dammit. He gave in.
He turns around and makes his way towards the reception counter, the man following him behind this time. “For someone who doesn’t quite like to read, you sure confidently came in and picked out one of the English classics.”
The man clears his throat, staring as Taehyung takes his spot behind the counter, after which he stares back with an endearing sparkle in his eyes. “I can confidently come in and meet my husband though.” The man easily says, smiling wider when Taehyung laughs prettily.
“What are you doing here, Jungkook?” Taehyung asks, chuckles escaping his lips. At the question, Jungkook holds up a lunchbag and only then does Taehyung notice it’s almost lunch time.
“You forgot your lunch box. I get that you are a little busy today with the new books coming and all, but you shouldn’t forget to eat, baby.” Jungkook lovingly says, leaning in to kiss Taehyung on his lips. “I even prepared your favorite today.” “Japchae?” Taehyung’s eyes shine.
Jungkook nods, smiling as he watches the excitement blooming in Taehyung’s face. “Will you be staying?” Taehyung asks. “Let’s eat together.”
“I can stay for a while. Not for long though. We have a big bunch to cook for.” Jungkook says, walking around the reception and towards Taehyung, arms instinctively wrapping around his husband’s waist as soon as he’s near him.
“Then I don’t want to keep you here for long.” Taehyung pouts, carefully smoothing out the creases on Jeongguk’s shirt. “I’ll make sure to eat it all.” Jungkook hums and kisses Taehyung’s cheek this time, but Taehyung tsks and puckers up his lips.
Jungkook laughs but he gently grabs hold of Taehyung’s face before pressing a loud kiss there. Taehyung laughs when Jungkook continues peppering his face with fluttery kisses that makes his stomach churn with a kind of giddiness he only feels with Jungkook.
Taehyung feels happy. But then again, he’s always happy with Jungkook. “You should go.” Taehyung says. “Will you pick up Min-ah today? Or do you want me to go?”
“I think I’ll rely on you for that task today. There’s another big bunch coming for dinner and I’ll have to be there to oversee the process.” Jungkook looks at Taehyung who nods and kisses his cheek. “I can do that. I was thinking of closing early today anyway.”
“Any reason why?” Jungkook smiles. “Songminnie, he seemed upset when he went to school today. I thought we could spend some time together, maybe he’ll open up to me about it? If not, the goal is to make him feel better.”
“I’ll try to come home early and cook his favorite dishes. Can’t let him sleep upset.” Jungkook seriously says and Taehyung smiles. “We’ll make sure he doesn’t. Off you go now.”
“Okay okay.” Jungkook laughs, letting Taehyung go out of his hold but not before pecking his lips again. Taehyung contently sighs, smiling and waving at Jungkook through the glass walls of the store.
The kindergarten Seongmin goes to, is nearer from Taehyung’s store than it is from the restaurant Jungkook works at. Taehyung used to say he’s okay with picking up Seongmin every day since Jungkook’s job gets a little unpredictable at times, but Jungkook insists he
can pick their son on days he can as well. Taehyung doesn’t push it because he knows just how much Jungkook likes being involved in every little thing that comes with being a parent alongside Taehyung. If anything, he’s grateful and so blessed to have met someone like
Jungkook, married him and built a family with him. That man definitely checks out every box there is on being a lover, a husband, and a father. There are days like this when Jungkook does rely on Taehyung because of unavoidable situations, and Taehyung is always happy
and ready to step in, even without being asked. Taehyung waits outside the gate of the kindergarten, saying his greetings to the few parents that he knows. It doesn’t take long before the kids are allowed to come out of their classes in lines, and Taehyung just coos at the
sight. His smile widens when he spots his son, and he soon makes his way towards the teacher who is waiting with the kids. “Ah! Seongmin’s appa.” She grins, letting Seongmin run towards Taehyung. He hugs his waist and buries his face on Taehyung’s stomach.
“I thought Koo appa was coming.” Seongmin looks up at Taehyung. Taehyung crouches a little and boops his son’s nose. “He wanted to come but he had to go cook. Is it okay that I came instead?” Seongmin furiously nods. “I’m still happy you came.”
“I’m happy to have come too.” Taehyung chuckles. He stands up straight and holds his hand, then they both bow down to the teacher before they are on their way home. They stop by the park on the way home and Taehyung watches from the side as Seongmin happily plays around
the kids in the park. He seems fine today. But it does make him wonder why he was upset in the morning either way. As they continue to walk home, hand in hand, Seongmin looks up at Taehyung. “Appa, is it bad to have two dads?” Taehyung freezes.
He immediately crouches down to the six year old’s level and sighs. Somewhere deep down, he had dreaded something like this to happen. But now that has, Taehyung’s heart breaks a little. He gives Seongmin a smile. “Who told you that, baby?”
Seongmin looks down, a pout forming on his lips. “Minjun and Hari told me that it’s bad that I have two dads and no mom.” Taehyung grits his teeth. He needs to talk to Seongmin’s teacher about this.
He then gently holds Seongmin’s hand. “And how do you feel about having two dads? Do you think it’s bad?” “No!” Seongmin shakes his head. “I love you and koo appa so much! i have so much fun with you and-and I’m always so happy! Koo appa makes me tasty food.
You always read me my favorite stories, and i’m so happy to have two dads!” Taehyung smiles and hugs the six year old’s small frame against him. “Then that’s what matters, Seongmin-ah. Your koo appa and I love you so so much too. We’re so happy with you too.”
It seems Seongmin goes back to being his happy self after that. Maybe those questions were weighing on his mind and he somehow got an answer to those. Despite knowing, Taehyung cannot help but be a little upset about Seongmin having to face situations like this.
“I’m home!” Jungkook declares, walking through the front door of their apartment. Taehyung is doing the dishes in the kitchen and he can hear Seongmin’s excited squeals and Jungkook’s happy laughter out in the entryway. He cannot help but smile a little.
Seongmin soon resumes his activity of colouring after his greetings to Jungkook and that is when Jungkook pops into the kitchen. “Welcome home.” Taehyung greets him, smiling again when Jungkook hugs him from behind and kisses his cheek.
“I’ve come to take over the kitchen. What do you want to eat for dinner?” He asks, leaning against the countertop. His smile fades a little when he gets a good look at Taehyung’s face. “Tae? Baby, what’s wrong?” Taehyung blinks. “Huh?”
Jungkook holds Taehyung’s shoulder and turns him around to face him, both hands gently caressing his face. He looks so worried. “Your eyebrows were scrunched up, and your lips were slightly turned down. You’re worrying about something. What is it? Tell me.”
“Why are you so perfect?” Taehyung asks instead. It makes Jungkook frown the more though. “Tae.” Taehyung sighs and steps forward to properly hug Jungkook. It’s warm, the way Jungkook immediately embraces him whole, steadying all of his worries in that moment.
“It’s just, my heart breaks when I think about what Seongmin has to face in the real world, you know? People hold a lot of prejudices and our Seongminnie having to face it without any fault of his makes me worry.” Jungkook holds Taehyung tighter.
“As parents, we do have the right to worry about our son. Maybe because we know this world isn’t too kind when they can still choose to be. What did Seongmin say?” “That he’s happy with us. That he loves us.”
Jungkook smiles and kisses Taehyung’s head. “Then it’s our duty to keep loving him as much as we can and keep him as happy as he can be. I think our Seongminnie will be alright. If he does have to face something like this again, we’ll always be here for him, won’t we?”
Taehyung smiles and nods, already feeling better. “We will.” “Me too!” Seongmin’s voice suddenly reaches them and they break free from the hug to look at their little angel. “You’re hugging! I want a hug too.” He raises his arms up.
Jungkook laughs and leans down to lift Seongmin up. “Come here, angel.” Seongmin squeals happily when Jungkook tickles his face with kisses. Taehyung feels so content just looking at the sight. “Tae appa too. Come hug us!” Seongmin calls out and who is he to say no?

Jungkook keeps smiling when he pockets his phone and starts working on the orders that have started to come in. He gives instructions to the other chefs and is almost done with his shift when Seokjin walks inside the kitchen with a grim look on his face.
Jungkook is a little confused, of course. “What’s wrong?” “He’s here again.” The confusion is replaced with understanding and Jungkook grits his teeth in annoyance, an emotion he rarely shows considering how patient of a person he is.
It’s only for a split second though, because the smile is back up again and he directs it towards Seokjin. “I’ll be right back.” Seokjin stops Jungkook from walking past him though. “Jungkook.” He says, almost nervous. “I know you won’t be completely honest with me about it.
But, I’m just asking this as a friend and a hyung. You want to open up your own restaurant, and it requires a lot of money. You didn’t…meet some shady people, right? That man has come here thrice this month, and he doesn’t look like a friend or an acquaintance.”
Jungkook chuckles and pats Seokjin’s arm. “Don’t worry, hyung. I know better than to fall into something like that. I promise you it’s not what you’re thinking.” Seokjin sighs, but nods. “Okay. I trust you.” Jungkook gives him another smile and walks out of the kitchen.
The alleyway behind the restaurant is dark and devoid of any random presence. Jungkook clenches his teeth, obvious frustration seeping out as he drags a bag of trash behind him. He sighs, silently sorting out the trash. “I thought I was clear the last time.” Jungkook says.
A figure appears out of the dark. He has his face covered but his eyes are razor sharp. “You are being summoned.” Jungkook scoffs, gripping the metal bin a little too tightly. “Summoned? Since when do I follow orders?” “It is a grave situation. The h—“ “I don’t care.”
Jungkook throws the last of the trash in the bin—a little too loudly than he had wanted to. But he was also angry. “I have nothing to do with it anymore. I have a different life now. I am Jeon Jungkook, the head chef at a restaurant called ‘Kim Seokjin’.”
Jungkook walks towards the door and pauses before he opens it. “Don’t come here anymore. You’ll only receive my ignorance.” Another pause. “I’m warning you.” And with that, he opens the door and steps inside, the door slamming shut behind him.

Taehyung looks up from the book he’s reading as Jungkook makes his way inside their room, quietly closing the door behind him. “He slept already?” Taehyung asks, closing his book when Jungkook gets under the covers and lays his head on Taehyung’s lap, while his arms go around
his torso. Taehyung smiles and carefully cards his fingers through Jungkook’s hair. Jungkook hums. “He must have been tired. We played at the park for a while. He was also telling me about his day.” He chuckles. “You know, I get really happy whenever I see our Minnie
expressing his happiness at the end of the day like he did today. Maybe because I didn’t exactly have a happy childhood. I feel happy and grateful that I can give Seongminnie all of what I could not get.” Taehyung hums. “I understand.“
He really did. Jungkook and Taehyung, they were both orphans, and while they were raised in different orphanages, they did share a lot of unhappy childhood memories. So to see that they can provide Seongmin all their love and care, and good memories to look back to, it does
make Taehyung feel just as grateful. Jungkook then turns around so that he’s facing up at Taehyung. “Did you have any happy memories from the orphanage? Apart from what you’ve already told me?”
Taehyung thinks about it. “I remember one memory. I don’t think I’ve told you about this yet.” Jungkook looks curious. “What is it?” “There used to be a pond behind our orphanage. It was restricted, because it was a huge one, and we were kids. They probably didn’t want any
accidents happening. But me and…” Taehyung pauses, suddenly remembering a face he had not thought about for a while. “…a friend, we used to sneak out at night, especially during summers, and go for a swim at the pond. Because there were a lot of us,
all of us didn’t get our turns to bath. So it used to be especially hot during the summers. The pond was our natural AC.” Taehyung laughs. “I remember feeling so happy when I just laid there in the water.” “Ooh. Our Taehyung-ie was a mischievous one, huh?” Jungkook smiles.
Taehyung laughs and playfully pushes Jungkook away. “Not as much as you. You almost set your orphanage on fire!” “That was a very innocent accident. The keyword here is ‘almost’!” Jungkook defends himself. It only makes Taehyung laugh.
“But that friend of yours…” Jungkook starts to speak when their laughter simmers down to just smiles. Taehyung’s smile falls completely for a second, but he hopes Jungkook does not notice when he brings it back up again. “What about him?” “Who is it? Are you still friends?”
Taehyung maintains his smile and leans down to kiss Jungkook’s forehead. “Not anymore. It’s been a long time so I don’t even remember what he looks like.” Except he does. He remembers him clearly. Holds a guilty weight over what he could have said, but hadn’t.
“Well, that could happen.” Jungkook seriously nods. “I don’t remember half of the kids I grew up with.” “Don’t you have to sleep? I thought you told me you had a busy day tomorrow.” Taehyung looks down at Jungkook.
Jungkook smiles though, mischievously looking at Taehyung, and Taehyung—he knows what that look means very well. He blushes and his heart picks up pace. “Can we kiss a little before that?” Jungkook asks, sitting up. Taehyung huffs. “Only kissing.”
Jungkook laughs. “As you wish.” He carefully holds Taehyung’s face in his, smiling wide as he leans in to peck Taehyung’s own smiling lips. Taehyung feels the way his heart tightens in this gratifying happiness that washes over him. He wishes for it to stay for a long time.

Instead of meeting at the restaurant, Jungkook and Taehyung invite the guys to their apartment. It is their wedding anniversary soon as well but because Namjoon will be going to France and Hoseok has a competition abroad during that time,
they decide it will be okay to celebrate it together earlier than planned. The atmosphere is jolly and comfortable as Taehyung remembers all the other times he has the guys over.
They were mostly Jungkook’s friends, but after he got introduced to them as his husband, they became Taehyung’s friends as well. Everyone was there except Jimin, the new friend Taehyung had met recently.
He knew Namjoon liked him, and had thought that he could introduce them but Jimin already had plans out of the city that day, but hearing Namjoon talk about how he will approach Jimin after his trip to France makes him excited for the supposed progress in their relationship.
Taehyung loves seeing love bloom around him, after all. After dinner, Taehyung smiles when he walks into the living room to see Seokjin and Hoseok playing with Seongmin.
It warms his heart to see Seongmin has uncles around him who have so much love to give. He looks around to see Namjoon is on the balcony, talking on the phone. So he lets him be and proceeds to place the snacks on the table.
“Why don’t you go brush your teeth, baby?” Taehyung tells Seongmin. “I want to play with Uncle Jinnie and Seokie a little bit more.” He whines, sticking close to Seokjin, who beams and holds Seongmin close to him.
“Uncle Jinnie wants to play with Seongminnie too.” Seokjin pouts just like the kid, which in turn makes Seongmin burst into giggles. Hoseok just clicks pictures of them from the side.
“You have school tomorrow.” Taehyung tries to be stern. “Don’t you want to play with your friends tomorrow?” “I do!” Seongmin says. He then turns to Seokjin. “Uncle Jinnie! Seongmin will play with you next time. Don’t be sad, okay?”
Seokjin laughs and ruffles the kid’s hair. “Okay buddy!” Seongmin quickly rushes towards the bathroom after the assurance, while Taehyung smiles at his antics. He’s growing up too fast.
“Wah. That kid is growing up so fast.” Seokjin voices out Taehyung’s thoughts as the latter pours them their drinks. “He was so tiny when we met him for the first time.” Taehyung agrees. “Kids grow up really fast. I’m kinda sad to see him grow up, but I’m also happy.”
“Of course you should be!” Hoseok takes a glass from the table. “He’s growing up just fine. I still remember Jungkook freaking out to us about how to be a good father the first night you got him. I can tell you both have been the best dads to him.”
“I was not freaking out!” Jungkook walks out of the kitchen with trays on both hands. “I was only concerned if I will be able to do a good job.” Same thing.” Seokjin snickers. “You want help?” Taehyung worriedly looks at Jungkook trying to balance the trays.
It had the desert he had prepared for all of them. “I got it, babe. No worries.” Jungkook reassures him.
But maybe he didn’t get it, because Namjoon rushes out of the balcony towards the bathroom, not seeing Jungkook because of his eyes glued on the phone and they bump into each other, knocking the tray out of Jungkook’s hand.
Now it would probably have been a disaster, considering there were glass bowls on the tray with a lot of liquid that could stain the couch, the carpet and probably the clothes of those on the way.
But everyone can only stare in complete surprise when Taehyung immediately gets up and gets hold of the flying tray, moving so fast that they cannot even see when he had managed to get the already tipped over glass bowls land perfectly on the tray without even a single drop
landing anywhere else. It was ridiculously unrealistic, if anyone were to be honest, but it also happened right in front of their eyes. Seokjin is the first to speak. “What the—“
“Thanks babe.” Jungkook casually says, sheepishly smiling at Taehyung. The three friends incredulously look at an unfazed Jungkook. But Taehyung looks angry, with scrunched eyebrows and lips turning to a frown.
“I thought I told you to call me if you needed help. The couch is expensive. What if it had stained?” “I’m sorry. I thought I could do it.” Jungkook pouts. “But Namjoon hyung suddenly…” He trails off.
Taehyung sighs, only to freeze when he feels the three pairs of eyes on him. He blinks as he looks at the frozen faces of their three friends.
“W-What’s wrong?” “That was some ninja type of shit just now.” Hoseok says, eyes still wide. “How did you do that?” Namjoon asks next. “Why can you even do that?” Seokjin blinks rapidly.
Jungkook chuckles and places the tray on the table. “Taehyung just has some crazy cool reflexes. I looked like you the first time I saw it.”
Taehyung awkwardly laughs, placing the tray he had managed to save on the table as well. “I used to do a lot of martial arts growing up.” “Tae appa! I’m done!” Seongmin suddenly enters the living room and Taehyung takes it as an excuse to get out of the situation.
“I’ll put him to bed and join you later.” He smiles at them before he walks over to Seongmin and lets him wish everyone goodnight before he takes him to his room.
As he gently pats Seongmin’s stomach over the blankets, watching him slowly drift to sleep, Taehyung cannot help but sigh. He should be careful, but maybe habits are hard to get rid of no matter how long.

The walk to the restaurant Jungkook works at is not really far nor is it tiring. Seongmin has fun taking walks and is a curious kid who likes to question everything he sees along the way and Taehyung likes entertaining him to satiate his growing curiosity.
It takes a little bit more time to reach the restaurant, but they do and Jungkook walks out of the kitchen with a bright smile when he is informed of their arrival.
“Did you miss me?” Jungkook asks, holding Seongmin in his arms and entertaining the younger one while Taehyung watches. Seokjin joins them soon after.
“We aren’t inconveniencing you, are we? I should have asked you first before deciding to come along.” Taehyung sheepishly says. “Of course not.” Seokjin is quick to assure him. “You should know by now that I always love having your family around. Especially Seongmin!”
He grins as he looks at the father and son currently having a fit of laughter on their own. “Besides, rush hour has long been gone so Jungkook is free for now. Will you be staying here for dinner?” Taehyung nods.
“That’s good! Hoseok is coming over too. We can have dinner together.” “That sounds nice.” After a few seconds, Seokjin goes back to manning the counter while the family is left on their own.
Jungkook kisses Taehyung’s cheek, who blushes and slaps his husband on the arm—not really fond of public displays of affection, but not completely opposed to it either.
Not when his stomach flutters wildly until warmth settles in his chest when Seongmin mirrors his Koo appa and kisses Taehyung on the cheek as well.
“You should go back to the kitchen. We’ll sit in the corner and wait for you.” Taehyung says, noticing few customers walking in. “I’ll prepare a snack and bring it over for the two of you then.” Jungkook agrees, handing Seongmin over to Taehyung.
He suddenly looks behind Taehyung, surprise raining on his face. “Oh! Namjoon hyung! When did you come back?” “Just today.” Taehyung hears Namjoon chirp back enthusiastically. “I thought you were coming back in two days?” Taehyung asks.
“Ah yes. That was the initial plan, but my trip was cut short because I got most of the content anyway.” Taehyung nods only to focus his attention on Seongmin when he tugs on Taehyung’s shirt collar. “Appa I want to pee.” He pouts.
“I’ll take Seongminnie to the bathroom. Let’s talk more later.” Namjoon nods, easily falling into a conversation with Jungkook instead.
After Taehyung helps Seongmin in the bathroom and helps him wash his hands, Seongmin laughs and runs out despite Taehyung’s protests of not running. He sighs, washing his own hands and walking out to see Seongmin talking with Seokjin, so he joins Jungkook and Namjoon instead.
“…that’s why we came in here.” “What are you talking about?” Taehyung asks with a smile, checking his bag to see if he had brought Seongmin’s sippy bottle. He does not go anywhere without it.
“About my new friend. I met him in Paris and coincidentally we were flying back the same day to Korea. I thought I’d show him around since it’s been years since he’s coming back to Korea apparently.”
“What was his name again?” Jungkook asks. “Yoongi. Min Yoongi.” Taehyung immediately freezes in his spot.
He whips his head towards Namjoon, the pulsating beating of his heart ringing in his ears. It’s a name he remembers all too well. A name he would rather forget if he wanted to live this life he had created for himself. Why did he have to hear it now?
“He’s parking his bike right out. We even have the same interests! Isn’t that crazy? We biked here together.” Namjoon quips. Yoongi and biking? He would be crazy to think he actually likes it. He pushes away his thoughts when he feels his heartbeats getting faster.
He should leave before they see each other. “I need to leave.” Taehyung says in the midst of planning a way out. “I-I’ll take Seongmin and go home. Let’s eat out another time.” He hurries his words out. “What’s wrong?” Jungkook instantly notices Taehyung’s change in mood.
Taehyung wonders at times like this if he has really let all his guards down in front of Jungkook, or if Jungkook is just really good at reading him after all his years. He had always been cautious despite letting it all go, after all.
Taehyung does something he never thought he would have to do when he married Jungkook. He brings out his practised calmness in dire situations, and if Jungkook notices the constant shift, he doesn’t really comment on it.
“I got a call that a batch of new books are arriving today. I had completely forgotten about it until I got the call.” He tells Jungkook and Namjoon who understandably nods.
“Didn’t you say Jihee was working her shift today? You can tell her to look over it.” Jungkook pouts, an attempt to get Taehyung to stay. “You’re such a dork.” Taehyung teases, playfully and gently pinching Jungkook’s side despite his raging heartbeats. “But I think—“
It’s too late. Words die down in his throat when the door opens and a face he had really not expected to see walks in. Taehyung pretends to be calm. /Very/ calm. In no way he thinks this is a coincidence.
He is sure that Yoongi had followed Namjoon after somehow getting wind of Taehyung’s existence. So he tries to pretend like he knew how to, because he knows very well Yoongi will pretend as well. Atleast for now.
“Ah! Yoongi’s here.” Namjoon smiles at the arrival. “These are the friends you talked about, didn’t you?” Yoongi casually says, glancing at Taehyung like he did Jungkook. Nothing evident that shows Yoongi knows Taehyung from long ago.
“And you’re Yoongi-ssi!” Jungkook grins wide, holding out his hand as the latter shakes it rather comfortably. “Namjoon had been texting about his new best bro. If you sense any hostility, it all comes from the feeling of being replaced.” He jokes.
Yoongi gives Jungkook a smile. “No worries. I already know how he holds you people in high regards. You must be Jeon Jungkook.” Jungkook grins. “Ah yes. I’m Jungkook. And this is my husband, Taehyung.” Only then does Yoongi finally look at Taehyung properly.
Taehyung does not waver. Yoongi the same. “It’s nice to meet you, Taehyung-ssi.” “Likewise.” Taehyung gives him a smile. “You must be a pretty charming person for Namjoon hyung to befriend you this soon.”
Yoongi smirks. “I can be charming when I want. Fortunately, Namjoon had been equally as charming. Otherwise it’s hard for me to befriend others as well.” Taehyung grips Yoongi’s hand a little too tightly only for a weight to press against his leg.
He lets go of Yoongi’s hand immediately and looks down to see Seongmin sticking behind Taehyung, curiously looking at Yoongi—an unfamiliar face. “Oh! Seongminnie is here too!” Namjoon says, smiling at the child.
“Who is he?” Seongmin shyly asks, already ready to make new friends, but his initial shyness slowly seeping in. Taehyung wants to cry somehow. He had thoughts during certain nights when they had first adopted Seongmin.
If Yoongi had been a part of his life now, how would he react if he had met Seongmin? His heartbeats get louder, stance gets a little protective, when Yoongi kneels down to Seongmin’s level with a dismal smile.
“Hi. I’m Uncle Namjoon’s friend, Yoongi.” “Uncle…Yoonie?” Taehyung tenses. It’s what he used to call Yoongi when they were kids. Yoongi gives Taehyung a quick glance and he nods. “Yes. Uncle Yoonie. It’s nice to meet you, Seongmin-ah.”
✨✨✨
It’s only a few days after Yoongi had been introduced to Taehyung’s small friend group, and it annoys him how quickly Yoongi had befriended every one of them. Especially Jungkook. Maybe that’s the reason Taehyung is especially pissed, annoyed and tense.
For one, Taehyung knows Yoongi has been intentionally squeezing himself into Taehyung’s life, even if it meant building relationships with the people closest to Taehyung without even meaning to.
Taehyung had wanted to live this life with no pretence, with the exception of burying his past as a spy somewhere no one can even notice. And he had been doing pretty well. Almost too well to the point of lowering his guard around his friends. Something he rarely used to do.
But here Yoongi was, bullshitting his way through with a charming and friendly persona, probably just to plant himself into Taehyung’s life even if the latter wanted to or not.
His suspicions get confirmed when they are invited to Namjoon’s place for a small dinner party after he lands a really big sponsorship deal. Taehyung hadn’t wanted to go, considering how he knew Yoongi would be there. He’s always there now.
But Taehyung also didn’t know what Yoongi would do if he wasn’t there to see through it. He hates that his peaceful life is being disrupted like this.
Is Yoongi seeking revenge of some sort? Did the higher ups send him here? No. The punishment for locating a runaway spy—especially after the spectacle Taehyung caused—was instant death even if that person was your closest confidant.
He knows Yoongi will not hesitate to do so, being someone who lived by the books. But then again, Yoongi wouldn’t be befriending everyone if he was sent by the higher authorities to do that. So why is he here?
“Appa!” Seongmin’s voice breaks him out of his wandering thoughts. He’s currently in the kitchen, fixing a snack for everyone upon Namjoon’s request.
When he turns around to face his son with a smile though, he’s struck with terror when he sees him holding Yoongi’s hand with no bouts of uneasiness or wariness for that matter. It really scares Taehyung for some reason.
“Seongmin-ah, come here.” Taehyung gulps, kneeling down to usher his son over. Seongmin looks confused but he obliges, Taehyung feeling relieved once Yoongi lets his hand go and once Taehyung gets to hug his son against him. The fear disappears completely.
Seongmin giggles when Taehyung kisses the side of his head. “What is this? Did you want to kiss me?” Taehyung smiles at him and ruffles his head. “Because you’re cute.”
Seongmin grins and kisses Taehyung’s cheek too. “You’re cute too, appa.” “What did you want? I thought I told you not to trouble your uncles when you could have easily found me.” Taehyung asks, glancing at Yoongi who’s leaning against the doorway and watching them converse.
“I didn’t. I was a good boy. It was Uncle Yoonie who wanted Seongminnie’s help. Uncle Yoonie asked me where you were, so I brought him to you. You always told me I should be helpful.” He pouts.
“Really?” Taehyung smiles at him to ease his guilt. “You’ve been a good boy. Thank you for bringing him here. How about you take this bowl of nuts to Uncle Namjoon and stay with Koo appa? Can you do that? I’ll talk with Uncle Yoonie.”
“Okay!” Seongmin smiles again, carefully holding the small bowl of nuts and making his way towards the living room where his other uncles were. Once it’s only Taehyung and Yoongi in the kitchen, Taehyung stands up and fixes Yoongi with an angry glare. “Stay away from Seongmin.”
Yoongi raises an eyebrow from where he’s standing. “What are you so scared of? Afraid that I might take Seongmin away?” Taehyung tenses completely.
“Relax. I don’t deal with kids. You know that.” A pause. “Or at least you used to know. Otherwise you wouldn’t see me as a threat around your kid. But a kid? Really?”
“Why are you here?” Taehyung only asks. “You should have pretended you didn’t know I existed even if you were aware of it.” “I wanted to, but I couldn’t.” Yoongi immediately says. “Taehyung-ah, Tae—“ A sharp pause, “—Agent V, come back with me.”
Taehyung lets out a disbelieved scoff. His whole expression hardens and Yoongi is fixed with the deadly glare people used to fear. He remains calm though. He simply stares with conviction as Taehyung takes a step towards him, still stopping at a very considerable distance.
“I left my past behind and started a family I cherish with all my heart. Why do you think I’ll so easily agree to what you’re asking of me, agent?” “Why did you leave?” Yoongi asks another question instead of replying. Taehyung’s facade slightly breaks. He looks away.
“I had nothing to lose when I left then.” Taehyung coldly replies, ignoring the pang of hurt that splashes across Yoongi’s face. “I have people I love and want to protect now. I can’t leave.”
Yoongi looks like he’s starting to get frustrated. “Do you know how much I searched for you when I heard of your supposed death because of the plane crash? “ He asks, voice toned down so anyone passing by won’t hear him. He even takes a step forward.
“The agents believed it, the superiors believed it, /everyone/ at the base believed it but I didn’t! People said it was just denial but no, I had a gut feeling you didn’t die. I /had/ to believe it when I was presented with your charred dead body. The DNA was yours.”
Yoongi lets out an unamused and angry chuckle. “So forgive me if I had to come see for myself when I saw you in the camera roll of a complete stranger in the heart of Paris.” Taehyung stays quiet.
