#taekookau where on his 25th birthday, Jungkook wakes up with the most peculiar ‘gift’.
He can hear other people’s thoughts.
While trying to survive the day with this new ‘power’, he’s surprised to find out that the office’s most desired bachelor has impure thoughts about him.
>> it’s almost my birthday so I felt like writing something short-ish and sweet :)
>> jk is confused and tae is hot — that’s the more accurate summary lol

—————
Jungkook cautiously exits the taxi and looks carefully at the street in front of him.
People are walking around on their way to work, some are looking down at their phones, some are carrying coffee cups, but they’re all minding their own business.
It’s a typical Monday morning.
Well, typical for everyone /but/ Jungkook.
Firstly, it’s his birthday. A special day, a /meaningful/ day, a day for celebration — or so his friends tell him. If it was up to Jungkook, he would’ve celebrated the day by ordering pizza after work and playing video games.
His friends, though, think differently, and won’t allow him to stay home and do such /normal/ things on his birthday. So the plans for tonight are drinking and dancing. Where? Jungkook has no idea, but Seokjin is on it so he hopes the night won’t be a total disaster.
But his birthday is not the only ‘special’ thing happening today, another unexpected thing occurred. A thing that makes Jungkook wonder if he’s going slightly mad.
Everything was normal at first after he woke up. He dragged himself out of bed, chose his clothes for the day and took a quick shower — his usual routine, nothing special there.
However, while he was brushing his teeth, his roommate, Hoseok, burst into the room, still in his underwear — which was pretty normal of him, Hoseok isn’t familiar with the concept of personal space — but what happened afterwards was…/surprising/.
While Jungkook was minding his own business and staring at his own reflection, his roommate opened the cabinet next to him to look for something, and then, Jungkook heard him speaking.
Only that it sounded…weird.
Hoseok wasn’t speaking to him, it was almost like he was talking to himself.
/Where is my moisturizer? I know I bought another one. Maybe Jungkook used it? — no way, his skincare routine is a mess—/
Jungkook turned his head to protest that statement, but stayed quiet when Hoseok just kept on talking aimlessly.
/Ohhh there it is. Oh wow the strawberry-flavored lube is here too, I wondered where it went. I need to tell Yoongi I found it—/
Jungkook spit the toothpaste out of his mouth and was about to tell his roommate to shut the hell up because /dude/, TMI.
But when Hoseok closed the cabinet door and Jungkook was able to see his face for the first time, he went into a state of minor shock.
Because even though he could /hear/ Hoseok speaking, the man’s lips weren’t moving. They were sealed shut.
/Jungkookie looks nice today, but maybe I should tell him not to wear such a boring shirt on his birthday? I mean, a white button down? Come on man—/
“Excuse me?”
Hoseok raised his eyebrows in confusion.
“Um, you’re excused?”
Jungkook was about to say that he didn’t mean that, but then realized that Hoseok didn’t understand his meaning because his roommate didn’t actually /say/ anything.
It was like he was just — thinking it? And somehow… Jungkook heard it?
So he stared at his friend in shock while Hoseok became even more confused.
/Why is he staring at me like that? Do I have something on my face? No, it doesn't seem like it. Maybe he suddenly realized how handsome I am? Oh Jungkookie, my heart already belongs to Yoongi—/
“Oh /ew/ SHUT up!”
Feeling the need to distance himself from the situation, Jungkook pushed past Hoseok and escaped the bathroom.
“But I didn’t say anything!” Hoseok shouted after him. “And I didn’t give you your happy birthday hug yet!”
The rest of the morning felt like an episode of black mirror. And somehow, he was the star of the show.
Hoseok insisted on cooking him a birthday breakfast so Jungkook had to listen to his friend's erratic thoughts(?) while the only thing he could do was sit there in a state of a never ending shock.
Hoseok’s thoughts were all over the place. He wondered what he should get for lunch, what should he wear to Jungkook’s birthday bash, and whether it was acceptable to dip your kimchi in your coffee (what the fuck?).
Oh and Yoongi, he thought about Yoongi a lot.
When Jungkook finally left his apartment to head to work, he had the slight hope that maybe it was just a Hoseok thing, that maybe he could hear only his friend’s thoughts for some inexplicable reason.
But all the remaining hope he had vanished when he entered the elevator and was immediately assaulted by the thoughts of his neighbors.
It was…overwhelming to say the least.
He managed to learn about an affair between the lady on the fifth floor and the man on the eighth floor (who is already married, mind you), and was slightly fascinated to hear the thoughts of a first grader, who seemed to be very interested in dinosaurs.
It was overall a surreal experience and when he exited the building, he finally had a moment of quiet. Which was again ruined when he tried to use the bus to go to work and faced an onslaught of thoughts that made him want to jump off the vehicle from the nearest window.
He somehow managed to hold back and get off on the first stop instead, but the damage had been done. He was traumatized.
That was how he found himself taking a taxi to work.
And now he’s here, in front of the office where he works, and he’s a little terrified.
How is he supposed to go through the rest of the day like this? Maybe he should just head back home and hide under his blanket? Maybe it’ll just go away in a few hours? Maybe—
“Jungkook-ah! Happy birthday!” The cheery voice of Hyein startles him out of his thoughts and he hugs his bag to his chest as he turns to face his colleague.
“T-Thank you.”
“Are you alright?”
/He looks a little ill, is he okay? Why is he just standing here? Man, I hope Junwoo didn’t forget to buy him those flowers, he’ll be so happy to see them on his desk. Receiving flowers on your birthday is the best—/
Jungkook makes a mental note to act surprised later when he sees those flowers.
“Y-Yes, just a little headache.” He isn’t even lying, hearing people’s thoughts can cause a migraine.
“Oh no, I might have some painkillers on my desk if you want some.”
Jungkook agrees because it feels like the polite thing to do, and then he forces himself to follow her into the building.
He barely hears a word she says while they talk along the way because there are too many people around with too many thoughts he can’t seem to shut off.
He tries to focus on the conversation but it’s hard to do when the person next to you is currently having very /detailed/ thoughts of his one night stand from last night.
“Are you sure you’re okay? Your face is kinda red.” Hyein says in concern as they walk into their office and Jungkook shakes his head and tries to give her a reassuring smile. It probably looks more like a grimace.
“Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday Jungkook! Happy birthday to you~!” Some of his colleagues start singing when they see him approach and Jungkook makes sure to look surprised as hell to see the bouquet resting on his desk.
The employees share one big work space and each one has his or her own cubicle, so everyone can see the colorful flowers on his desk, along with the happy birthday sign hanging on the side.
It’s a nice gesture, and Jungkook would’ve appreciated it more if he wasn’t so busy trying to turn off the constant chatter of /thoughts/ that doesn’t seem to end.
When the small celebration is over and everyone scatters back to their cubicles, Jungkook carefully sits down on his seat and stares at the computer screen in front of him.
Next to him, Jingoo wonders where to take his girlfriend for dinner, while Yuna, who’s sitting on his other side, is quietly gossiping with Soyeon from Human Resources.
It’s like constant noise that just doesn’t stop so Jungkook closes his eyes for a bit to try and fight off those intrusive thoughts. There must be a way to make it stop, why is it even happening to him? Did someone curse him? What if—
/Oh my god he’s SO HOT/
That particular thought almost makes Jungkook jump up from his seat because of how loud it is and he automatically turns to glare at the source — Yuna, who seems to be staring at someone across the room.
/Oh my GOD he’s coming over here! I haven't put on my lipstick yet! Shit what do I do?/
While Yuna is busy freaking out, Soyeon’s thoughts are a little more calm — but as thirsty.
/He’s honestly the best looking man I’ve ever seen. It’s almost unfair. I wish we were on the same floor and I could stare at him the whole day. And this shirt on him? Dayum—/
Jungkook is almost certain he knows who they’re talking about, so he’s not that surprised to see Kim Taehyung walking towards them looking like he just got out of a fashion commercial.
The office’s newest heartthrob had started working here almost two months ago and since then managed to steal most of the women's (and some of the men’s) hearts.
Jungkook can’t say for sure how many times he’d heard his colleagues whispering about the man during their breaks but it happens almost daily. To be honest, he can’t exactly blame them.
Jungkook is neither blind nor deaf so he’s definitely not immune to man’s charms. Kim Taehyung has it all - the looks, the brain, the voice (it’s sexy as hell, sue him), and most importantly - he’s single (according to rumors).
Since he figured he didn’t stand a chance very early on, Jungkook never tried to approach the man. Yes, he told him good morning and they had a small talk every now and then, but that was it.
He isn’t bitter about it. For him, Taehyung is like a piece of art to be admired from afar — and he never minded it.
The thing about Taehyung is that he’s also really nice. He always smiles whenever their eyes meet, and he even carried his bag for him once when he saw him struggling to carry a bunch of things out of the office — like a true gentleman.
So when he sees him walking towards him with that endearing smile, Jungkook already knows what’s about to happen.
“Jungkook-ssi, happy birthday.” Says that deep ass voice and Jungkook thinks he hears Soyeon and Yuna sigh wishfully.
In order to be polite, Jungkook stands up to thank him with a smile.
“Thank you.”
The interaction is very normal up until that point, and that’s when shit gets weird.
Because it’s the same as it is with everyone else — he can hear Taehyung’s thoughts. And he soon learns that they are quite different from what he would’ve expected.
/Maybe I should’ve gotten him flowers? No, that might have been too much. He deserves flowers, though, or maybe chocolate? Or a piece of jewelry? A necklace to put around that beautiful neck. Man, I wish.../
Jungkook finds himself staring at Taehyung in disbelief because — the man wants to buy him gifts? They barely know each other. And he thinks his neck is beautiful? What the—
/He looks so pretty today in his white shirt, like the angel that he is — pure and sweet. His cheeks are flushed too, so cute./
Uncontrollably, Jungkook looks down at his shirt. It looks good on him? (Ha! Take that, Hoseok)
But wait. Taehyung thinks he looks like an angel?
If shit wasn’t weird enough, it gets even weirder after that.
/Pretty angel. Kind of makes me wanna mess him up — open up those buttons and ruffle his shiny hair. He’ll look so pretty lying on white sheets covered by nothing but—/
“…What?” Jungkook barely says.
Obviously, Taehyung doesn’t get his meaning.
“I’m sorry?”
Jungkook has to clear his throat before he can speak again.
“T-Thanks for coming over to congratulate me.”
“It’s nothing, my pleasure.”
/Everything for you, angel./
Jungkook almost chokes on his own spit.
There is a moment of awkward silence before Taehyung finally walks away.
“I hope you have a great day, Jungkook-ssi.”
Jungkook barely manages to thank him again, and then takes a moment to collect himself when there’s enough distance between them.
Were those thoughts real? Did Kim Taehyung just—
Unbelievable.
This is officially the weirdest day of his life
————-
/Maybe I should ask for a promotion? I think it’s my time. I’ve been working so hard lately, Namjoon-ssi must’ve noticed my efforts, my work is literally flawless and—/
Jungkook barely holds back a groan while he listens to Yuna’s inner monologue. He tries not to, he /really/ is, but it’s practically impossible to block it out.
He feels kind of bad for listening to other people’s most personal thoughts, but from what he’s learned so far (it’s only been a few hours), the only way to stop listening is to create a distance between them. And since his desk is next to Yuna’s, it’s basically impossible.
And she should probably /not/ ask for promotion. She’s been working there for less than a year and Namjoon, their boss, doesn’t like it when people get ahead of themselves.
He doesn’t actually know Namjoon that well, but he’s observant and they’ve been working together for almost three years.
When Yuna’s inner conflict goes on and on Jungkook decides he could use a break. He saves the latest spreadsheet he’s been working on and heads over to the break room for a much needed coffee break.
Luckily, he doesn’t meet anyone else along the way and discovers that their small break room is currently empty.
With a deep sigh he lets himself literally fall down on one of the chairs.
Silence, /blissful/ silence.
There’s nothing better than complete silence, he decides, and then wonders if maybe he should join a convent if this nightmare won’t stop in the near future.
God he hopes it will.
He has no idea why this happened to him but he /really/ wants it to end. Superpowers are so overrated, Jungkook doesn’t fit being a superhero anyway — Seriously, giving him secret powers must be the most stupid mistake anyone has ever made—
“Oh Jungkook-ssi, you’re here.” A familiar deep voice says and pulls him out of his inner angst. When he sees who that is, though, he wishes the earth would open up and swallow him whole.
Kim Taehyung is the last person he wants to see right now. Jungkook feels like he could use 3-4 business days to recover from hearing the man’s thoughts this morning.
But, alas, there’s no escape for him.
“Taehyung-ssi, hey.”
“Hey, um, I was looking for you actually.”
“You were?
“Yes, I— I got you this.”
For the first time Jungkook notices the small box in Taehyung’s hands, and when the other man hands it over to him, he has no choice but to accept it.
/I hope he likes it I hope he likes it I hope he likes it I hope he likes it—/
Well shit, he can’t /not/ like it now.
Slightly scared, Jungkook opens the box to discover—
Cupcakes?
When it takes him a few seconds to respond, Taehyung’s thoughts become a little panicked.
/He doesn’t like it! Maybe he doesn’t like sweet things? Shit, I should’ve asked him before—/
“Thank you, Taehyung-ssi, I really like, um— chocolate?”
“Yes. Two of them are made of chocolate and the third one is vanilla.”
Oh wow, did Kim Taehyung actually made him cupcakes?
Curious, Jungkook raises his eyes to study the other man, who seems to be a little flustrated. With rosy cheeks and a kind-of-shy smile, Taehyung looks completely different from the man he used to admire from afar. But not in a bad way.
“Did you make these yourself?”
“Of course.” He replies, but his thoughts reveal a different truth.
/Definitely not, they would’ve turned out disgusting if I made them myself and I CAN’T allow my angel to eat anything other than utter perfection—/
Oh.
Jungkook struggles not to show any reaction on his face while Taehyung keeps on looking at him like everything is chill.
Everything is /not/ chill.
“So…you knew it was my birthday today?” Jungkook asks in order to make it all less awkward.
/Of course. I marked it on my calendar weeks ago./
“Oh, I just heard about it yesterday and had a few cupcakes to spare. I made them this weekend. For /myself/, of course.“
Riiiight.
“I see, thank you for thinking of me.”
/I’m always thinking of you./
When Jungkook literally chokes on thin air, Taehyung immediately becomes concerned.
“Are you alright?”
“Y-Yes, just—“ He coughs before he manages to say, “Just something in my throat. I’m fine, Taehyung.” After a second, he quickly adds, “I-I mean, Taehyung-ssi.”
“No! It’s fine, you don’t have to be so formal with me.”
“I… don’t?”
“Definitely not.”
“Oh, what should I call you then?”
Taehyung is a few years older than him, probably 27-28? So the only thing he can call him is—
“Hyung? Is that alright?”
Taehyung’s next thought catches him off guard because of how loud it is and Jungkook barely stops himself from flinching.
/YES PLEASE CALL ME HYUNG!/
“Yes, hyung is fine.”
Well… alright then.
“Sure, hyung.”
/Oh my GOD please call me hyung forever, it sounds perfect coming out of your mouth, so sweet and melodic and just— UGH, why are you so cute and sexy at the same time? It’s ridiculous—/
“H-Hyung, I should probably head back to work.” Jungkook says just to stop Taehyung’s thoughts from spiraling any further. It’s also difficult keeping a straight face. His face feels warm and it’s becoming harder and harder to maintain eye contact with Taehyung.
“Oh, of course. Sorry for taking so much of your time.”
“N-No, it’s fine. I will enjoy these,” he raises the cupcakes’ box, “thank you again.”
“It’s really nothing—“
“Oh Taehyung-ssi, Namjoon is looking for you.”
Soojin, Namjoon’s secretary, interrupts them just then when she opens the door and sees Taehyung standing there.
Jungkook says a quiet hallelujah and vows to be the best employee Namjoon could ever ask.
“Thank you, I’ll be right there.”
When Taehyung gives him an apologetic look, Jungkook simply smiles and encourages him to go. As soon as possible would be best, you /can’t/ keep the boss waiting after all.
After Taehyung leaves the room, Jungkook falls down on the nearest chair (again) and tries to collect himself (again).
Usually, he sees Taehyung once in a few days because he has a higher position and uses his own office. So seeing him twice on the same day is…nerve wracking, especially since the man seems to be somewhat infatuated with him.
Jungkook really doesn’t know what to do with that information.
When he lowers his eyes to look at the cupcakes, he sighs in defeat.
They have heart shaped sprinkles spread all over them.
————
Jungkook’s main goal for the rest of the day is survival. As simple as that.
He does his best to mind his own business— which is kind of hard to do when it’s your birthday and everyone wants to congratulate you.
But he tries his best by coming up with different excuses to escape. Using the restroom being the main one. His colleagues probably think he has diarrhea by this point.
But never mind that. Survival— he needs to focus on that.
When it’s time for lunch break, Jungkook realizes he has no choice but to be more social for a little while.
His coworkers insist on taking him out to lunch in order to celebrate and Jungkook just can’t refuse. They offer him free food, after all.
So he ends up agreeing but tells them he’ll join them later because he has to finish something first.
It’s clearly an excuse but he could really use a few minutes of quiet in order to prepare himself for what is coming next.
Luck, however, is definitely not on his side today, because when he finally gathers the courage to leave the office and join them, he meets none other than Kim Taehyung in the elevator.
Which is— great. Just great.
“Jungkook-ssi, going for lunch?” Taehyung asks when he enters the elevator after him.
“Yes, and you?”
“Same. But I need to stop on the first floor first to collect some documents.”
Jungkook hums in understanding and they both grow quiet for a bit. At least on the outside, because on the /inside/, Taehyung is loud as hell.
/He smells so nice, what is this perfume? Is it too rude to ask? Probably. But god I want to spray in all over my apartment and just—/
Thankfully, the elevator stops on the fifth floor and cuts off Taehyung’s train of thought.
Not so thankfully, a group of people enters and Jungkook is immediately attacked by a string of unending thoughts.
He stays very still while he tries to think happy thoughts in order to block the unwanted ones, but it becomes harder to do when the elevator stops on the fourth floor as well and even more people enter.
By that point, Jungkook feels like he’s on the verge of a panic attack and barely notices when the woman next to him moves even closer to him in order to give the other people more space.
Only when she accidentally pushes him and he nearly stumbles, he becomes more aware of his surroundings.
Luckily, Taehyung is there to hold his wrist and stop him from falling. His hold feels strong and assuring and Jungkook allows himself a moment to lean on him before he—
Hold on a damn minute.
Jungkook literally freezes when he realizes that everything became quieter all of the sudden. It’s not a complete silence, but it almost feels like the other thoughts became more— muted. As if someone turned down the volume.
It’s… amazing.
“Are you alright, Jungkook-ssi?” Taehyung asks when he sees him frozen in shock and Jungkook barely manages to nod before it all becomes loud again.
But why?! He barely had a minute to enjoy it.
What changed? What—
No way.
Jungkook looks down at his own wrist and realizes that Taehyung is no longer holding it. Just when he let it go— the thoughts came back in full force.
Without thinking much about it, Jungkook grabs Taehyung’s hand.
And it all becomes quiet again.
The thoughts are still there in the background, but it’s not as bad. Only when he focuses on them he can hear them more clearly.
How is it possible?
Jungkook turns to look at Taehyung, his gaze full of wonder and dismay, and finds the other man already looking back at him with similar wide eyes.
Taehyung seems stunned. Which is probably not that surprising since Jungkook is basically holding his hand like it’s his only saving grace.
It’s not that far from the truth.
And then Jungkook realizes something else.
While the other thoughts are muted, Taehyung’s thoughts are still loud and clear.
/Is he holding my hand? He is holding my hand. Why is holding my hand, though? Does it even matter? Nope, definitely not. He can hold my hand for eternity—/
Taehyung’s thoughts are interrupted when the elevator stops on the first floor and his shock finally starts to wear off.
“T-That’s my floor, I need to—“
When Taehyung makes a move to leave, Jungkook’s reaction is almost uncontrollable. He grabs Taehyung’s hand with both of his own and looks up at him with his best puppy eyes.
“Please don’t leave me.”
Taehyung is once again stunned.
“W-What— You— I mean w-why—“
While Taehyung tries to find the words to describe his disbelief Jungkook realizes he needs to find an excuse to keep him there. Taehyung can’t leave, he /must/ stay with him and hold his goddamn hand.
“Have lunch with me.”
“S-Seriously?”
“Yes, please,” Jungkook decides to use the magic word, “/hyung/.”
Taehyung melts almost immediately and they both barely notice it when the elevator reaches the ground floor and the crowd of people suddenly disappears.
“Lunch.” Taehyung says, his voice sounding a little hoarse, “L-Let’s have lunch.”
Oh thank you god.
————-
His coworkers are pretty surprised to see Jungkook walk into the cafe with Taehyung by his side — to say the least. Minji literally almost chokes on her water.
There are five of them - his cubicle neighbor Jingoo, Minji, Jaehyun, Yujin and Jihoon. His closest colleagues, who are probably going to drill him for information when this lunch is over.
Jungkook honestly doesn’t care, though, because he’d been holding Taehyung’s hand for the 10 minutes it took them to get there and the world had been blissfully quiet.
Only when they arrived did he let go of his hand, just before they entered the cafe. Jungkook isn’t happy about it in the slightest, but he still has some common sense left and letting his workers see him holding Taehyung’s hand will only spark unnecessary rumors.
Jungkook doesn't care about that all that much either because he’s basically willing to attach himself to Taehyung’s side from this moment forward, but Taehyung might not feel the same.
The other man has been exceptionally nice since they left the office. He just let him hold his hand without making a fuss and barely said a thing on the way.
Surprisingly enough, he was also quiet on the /inside/. Jungkook barely heard any of his thoughts, which probably means he didn’t have many.
Maybe he’s in shock.
The downside of not being able to touch Taehyung anymore is the rain of thoughts that hit him as soon as they arrive. And since he’s standing close to his friends, their thoughts are very loud and very clear.
/KIM TAEHYUNG?!?/
/They came here together? On his birthday? What kind of romcom is this—/
/Taehyung is so hot I’m seriously going to die if he sits next to me—/
/They look kinda cute together. I support this./
/Jungkook got a date? Cool. Can we eat now? I’m starving—/
“Hyung, I’m gonna sit there, come sit next to me.” Jungkook is quick to say before he leans down to sit next to Yujin — who apparently will /die/ if Taehyung sits next to her.
“Sure.” Taehyung says — still with that slightly stunned expression — and gives everyone a small bow before he sits down.
/Oh my god he's also polite! He’s literally perfect, how—/
“T-Taehyung hyung is joining us, sorry for not telling you beforehand.”
/He calls him HYUNG??/ Screams Minji’s inner voice, /How close are they? Shit we’re going to have a serious talk after this—/
“It’s fine, man. You want a menu?” Jingoo asks, the most chill guy of them all.
Taehyung nods and takes the menu from his hands.
“I haven’t been here before, what do you recommend?” He asks no one in particular, but his gaze falls on Minji, who sits right across from him.
/Oh wow he’s so pretty, his eyes are so big, how come I never noticed that? What was the question again? Damn, I don’t remember—/
Jungkook decides to save her.
“Here,” He says to Taehyung and leans closer to point at the pasta he likes. “This one is good. The salmon is also nice if you like fish.”
Taehyung hums in understanding while his thoughts run in a different direction.
/He has such long eyelashes, so pretty. And the way he smells…god, and his skin is so soft, I wish I could hold his hand again—/
Jungkook clears his throat and moves away a little to create more space between them. He’s also aware of the fact that he’s currently blushing. Can you blame him? A guy can take only so many compliments.
“I’ll take the pasta, then.”
“Good choice.”
“Taehyung-ssi, we haven’t really talked before.” Says Jaehyun.
“I guess not. Sorry for interrupting your lunch but Jungkook—“
“It’s fine, I didn’t mean that. It’s just that I didn’t know you and Jungkook were close.” He says while raising an eyebrow at Jungkook, who tries to think of a quick answer.
“Well, um, we’re not that—“
“It’s a recent thing.” Jungkook cuts off Taehyung’s reply. “Taehyung hyung is so nice and, um, /reliable/ so we kinda started talking. He even got me cupcakes for my birthday!”
The girls gasp in surprise while Jingoo just asks, “Dude, you can bake?”
Taehyung is quick to wave him off with a smile, promising that he’s really not that good in the kitchen.
/He thinks I’m reliable? Is that a good thing? I suppose it is but— I would’ve preferred it a lot if he considered me sexy, charming. Or maybe he’s just attracted to reliable men? Oh god, I hope he is—/
Jungkook tries to stop himself from listening to Taehyung’s inner angst and instead turns to look at Yujin, who is already staring at him unashamedly.
“Jungkook-ah, you should’ve told us you were friends!”
/How could you NOT tell us you were friends? Or maybe you’re more than friends? Oh my—“
“We became friendlier recently.”
Like, half an hour ago.
The waiter comes over to take their orders just then so it provides Jungkook some distraction from his friends’ personal thoughts. But afterwards, he is again reminded of how difficult it is to function when you hear the most random things just when you start to relax.
For example:
/Shit, I forgot to buy more cheerios, my girlfriend is gonna kill me—/
/I told them NOT to put tomatoes in the salad! Why is it so hard—/
/I really like her jacket, wonder where she bought it…her shoes, though? Such a shame./
And in the middle of all that, a familiar deep voice catches his attention.
/I wonder if Jungkook is not feeling well, he looks distracted—/
Jungkook turns his head to see Taehyung watching him with unmasked concern. He immediately forces on a smile.
“I’m sorry for dragging you out here.”
“N-No, I’m happy to be here. Actually— I wanted to ask you to lunch sometime.”
/But I’m a coward, and you’re an angel./
Jungkook bites his lip to stop himself from chuckling like an idiot. Taehyung is so dramatic, who would’ve thought?
“We can always do this again sometime, maybe just the two of us?”
/YES PLEASE!/
“Yeah, that sounds fine.”
Such a contrast.
When the waiter comes back and serves them their dishes, they all grow quiet again and Jungkook actually has a few minutes of peace because, apparently, people think less while they eat.
After a while, though, Jungkook frowns to himself in annoyance because he didn't receive his drink yet for some reason — even though he reminded the waiter.
But Jungkook is a polite boy, so instead of making a scene, he waits patiently.
Someone else notices his plight.
“Excuse me! He’s been waiting for his drink for a while now.” Taehyung says loudly when the waiter walks by their table. He immediately apologizes.
“I’m sorry. You wanted a coke, right?”
“Yes.”
“Coming right up!”
When the young man rushes to get him his drink,
Jungkook takes a moment to look at Taehyung, who’s currently busy talking to Jingoo.
He’s so… considerate, and /observant/. How did he even notice that? Jungkook didn’t say a thing.
Next to him, Yujin sighs.
/He’s so kind! Argh, he’s just dreamy./
Jungkook can’t exactly disagree with that statement.
“Yo, Jungkook. What are the plans for tonight?” Jihoon asks him.
“Oh, just going out with a few friends.”
“Nice, to a club?”
“Ummm, I don’t think so, probably a bar or something like that—“
Shit, hold on a minute.
Now that he thinks about it, going to a bar means being in the company of a lot of people, who have a /lot/ of thoughts.
Fuck.
“Don’t drink too much, though,” Jaehyun says, “we have another long day tomorrow.”
He’s right, tomorrow is a regular work day and he has to get up early.
“I’m not much of a drinker anyway.”
“Oh me too!” Taehyung perks up. “Usually it’s too bitter for me.”
“You like sweet things.” Jungkook assumes.
“Yes!” Taehyung says with a big smile that’s shaped like a box.
For the first time Jungkook finds himself thinking that he’s kind of… cute?
He always thought of him as this handsome and cool guy, but in the last few hours he got a different impression. He’s still (very) handsome but there’s also this sweetness to him.
They all chat for a while until their lunch break comes to an end, and they all insist on paying for Jungkook, not even allowing him to take out his wallet.
Jungkook finds that it’s a bit easier to ignore other thoughts when he’s very concentrated on something else (like a conversation), so when they all get up to leave, he’s again reminded of his new ‘gift’.
Immediately his eyes wander to Taehyung’s very large and very /free/ hand, but he can’t just hold it in front of the others, it would be too awkward—
Taehyung gives him the solution he’s searching for when he says he needs to use the restroom. Jungkook doesn’t hesitate to say that he’ll wait for him.
An excuse for more alone time? Check.
He chooses to wait outside since being in an open space is much better than a closed room when it comes to mind reading (he’s a quick learner).
And yet, he still frowns to himself when a girl passes by and thinks way too loudly of her little dog that she’s getting tired of, going as far as calling it annoying.
When Taehyung steps outside to join him, he sees him doing just that.
“Are you alright? Did someone upset you?”
Before Jungkook even manages to blink, Taehyung is already thinking ahead.
/Did someone bother him? Who’s the fucker? Just say the word and I’ll go and—/
Jungkook can’t help but chuckle because Taehyung is still so dramatic — but he’s kind of getting used to it.
“I’m fine, don’t worry. Just, um, a girl passing by was thinking— er, I mean /talking/ about abandoning her dog and it made me feel kinda sad.”
“That bitch.”
Jungkook lets out a surprised laugh and Taehyung immediately becomes sheepish.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to sound so aggressive—“
“It’s all good, I also hate these types of people.”
“You like animals?”
“I love them.”
“Me too!” Taehyung says in excitement. “I’m dying to adopt a dog but I’m too busy and don’t want it to be by itself all the time.”
“I see your point, but maybe one day?”
“Definitely.”
There are a few seconds of silence while they both wonder what to do next, and Taehyung is eventually the one who suggests they should head back.
“Right.” Jungkook quickly agrees, but when they start walking, his eyes are drawn again to the other man’s hand, resting so innocently by his side.
It’s a pretty hand, he decides, long and slender fingers—
Wait, when did he start noticing such things?
He blames it all on his ‘gift’.
It takes a few seconds of courage to finally ask, “Can I hold your hand?”
Taehyung freezes for a moment while his mind screams—
/WHAT?/
“I-I’m sorry?”
Jungkook bites his lip nervously before he continues.
“Look, I know it sounds strange, believe me I /do/. But if I tell you why I’m asking this you’ll think I’m mad so—“
“Jungkook…”
“— it’ll just make me feel better and I’m having such a shit day—“
“You are?!”
“— I don’t feel so well and it started this morning and I just—“
Jungkook finally shuts up when Taehyung raises his hand to offer it to me. He tries to appear calm but the redness on his cheeks is pretty telling. So are his thoughts.
/Whatever you want, angel, just tell me what you need and I’ll make it all better—/
Jungkook ends up blushing too before he reaches out and takes the other man’s hand.
“I’ll let go before we arrive.”
“Don’t worry about it.”
Taehyung is so sweet, and everything is so /quiet/, so for a moment, all is right in the world again, everything is back to normal.
Well, as normal as it is to have a hot guy holding your hand.
They walk for a few minutes and talk very little because they are too nervous to speak too much, but Jungkook has a front row seat to Taehyung’s mind so he’s definitely not bored.
He’s kind of grown used to having Taehyung think about him a /lot/ and now that he’s feeling more calm, he allows himself to think that it’s actually a little flattering.
When they arrive back at the office’s building, Jungkook immediately lets go of Taehyung’s hand.
“Thank you and, um, sorry for—“
“There’s no need for apologies, really.”
When they approach the elevator, Taehyung tells him he needs to stop at the first door to pick those documents he didn’t pick up before (because of Jungkook), and tells him to have fun tonight.
His nice words have the opposite effect though, because thinking of tonight makes Jungkook panic all over again.
How could he survive being around so many people again without…
Without Taehyung.
Well, shit.
While they wait for the elevator to arrive, Jungkook blurts out—
“You wanna come with us tonight?”
Taehyung looks very surprised and very confused when he turns his head to look at him, and Jungkook can’t blame him. Honestly, it’s a miracle he isn’t running away in the opposite direction by now.
“Are you serious?”
“Y-Yeah, it can be fun. You can bring your friends if you want.”
Taehyung simply looks at him for a bit, his mind trying to understand the situation.
/Is he inviting me to his birthday party? Why? Should I agree? — Who am I kidding? Jimin will kill me if I miss an opportunity like this—/
Jungkook has a second to wonder who Jimin is before Taehyung opens up his mouth and gives him the answer he’s hoping for.
“Sure, sounds fun.”
—————
“So you're telling me you invited this /boy/ to our exclusive outing tonight.” Seokjin says to him over the phone.
“He’s hardly a boy and I didn’t know it was supposed to be exclusive. He’s going to bring a friend too.”
Jungkook puts the phone on speaker so he can dry his hair better. He just got out of a much-needed shower and he feels pretty good.
He feels even better because Hoseok is still not back from work and the apartment is quiet and peaceful.
Don’t get him wrong, Jungkook loves Hoseok, it’s just that— not hearing anyone else's voice in his mind is amazing.
“If you want him to come because you secretly hope for birthday sex then /hey, I’m not judging you—“
“Oh my god, hyung! It’s not that! He’s just— a nice guy.”
A moment of silence.
“Right.”
Jungkook sighs while he towels his hair dry. He knows it sounds weird and totally out of character for him to invite someone else to his birthday celebrations. But he can’t tell Seokjin /why/ he needs Taehyung there.
He can’t tell him he wants the man to be close to him in case he needs some time off from hearing everyone’s thoughts
“Anyway, we said 8:30, right?”
“Exactly, dress to impress.”
Jungkook rolls his eyes.
“Of course.”
They end the call and Jungkook allows himself to fall on his bed for just a few minutes.
It’s 6pm so he has enough time for a short rest before he’ll need to start getting ready.
His mother called him on the way back from work (yes, he took a taxi again) and after she wished him a happy birthday and that good stuff, he tried to subtly dig for information regarding weird phenomenons in the family.
Like, mind reading.
Unfortunately, aside from being very confused by his questions, his mother didn’t provide a lot of help. It seems like everyone in Jungkook's family is just normal.
Jungkook was normal too until this morning.
So while he relaxes at home, his mind wanders to other possible explanations.
The only special thing about today is that it's his birthday, so Jungkook figures it has to have something to do with it.
What, though?
He never asked for any special abilities, never even secretly wished for them. No sir, he was fine being a regular guy with a regular life. So what happened?
Just when he feels his eyes getting heavy, there’s the sound of the front door closing, followed by a shout—
“Honey I’m home!~”
It seems like his time off is over.
“Hey, hyung.” Jungkook mutters as he steps into the living room.
“My Jungkookie!” Hoseok beams and literally throws himself at him. “How was your birthday so far?”
/He looks tired, why does he look tired? Did he have a bad day at work? Oh no! Maybe I should give him his gift now? But then Yoongi will kill me and—/
Jungkook grunts and tries to escape Hoseok’s hold, all while trying to calm him down.
“It was good, I got flowers… and cupcakes.”
“Cupcakes?! Oh wow, your coworkers are so nice.”
/Did he bring them home? I could use something sweet—/
“I put them in the fridge if you want some.”
/Wow did he read my mind? Also yay! Maybe I should make coffee too—/
“I did.”
Hoseok’s internal excitement stops and is replaced by confusion. He pulls away from Jungkook and frowns.
“You did what?”
“Read your mind.”
There’s a moment of silence where Hoseok keeps on frowning at him while Jungkook just stares back, waiting.
Finally, Hoseok lets out a laugh.
“Ha! Very funny.”
/He almost got me there. He looks so serious, though, is he not feeling well?/
“I’m feeling fine. Well, my head hurts a little but—“
Hoseok gasps and takes a few steps away from him.
/Is this real? Is someone filming this? Is this a prank—/
“Be serious, hyung, how can I possibly read your mind just to prank you?”
“S-Stop doing that!”
“Doing what?”
“Read my mind!— Shit, I can’t believe I’m actually saying this.”
“Oh hyung,” Jungkook says with a tired sigh, “if there’s a way to stop this then /please/ let me know.“
/Is this a dream? Am I dreaming right now—/
“You’re not dreaming.”
“Ya! I said stop!”
With a somewhat terrified look, Hoseok literally runs away to his bedroom. When the door closes after him with a loud bang, Jungkook sighs again before he follows him.
He’s not sure why he chose Hoseok to confide in, but his roommate is his closest friend so it just felt right. Unfortunately, he didn’t consider how dramatic he can be.
When he stops just outside of Hoseok’s bedroom, he hears him panicking internally.
/What the FUCK is going on? Shit, I’m way too sober for this, how is this even possible? When did it start? Maybe he’s been reading my mind for a while now…OH NO! So fucking embarrassing—/
“Hyung,” Jungkook calls out from behind the closed door, “it only started this morning so don’t worry so much—“
“I told you to STOP!”
“I’m sorry, Hobi, but I really can’t. And I could really use your help right now so can you just come out and talk to me…please?”
Hoseok stays quiet for a few seconds.
“I will make you some coffee, alright? And you can pick any cupcake you like.”
Another few seconds of silence.
“Fine, just— just give me a few minutes.”
“Sure.”
That went well.
————
Hoseok looks at him with unhidden suspicion while they both sit on the living room’s couch drinking coffee. Hoseok is also eating a cupcake, as promised.
/Don’t think about anything don’t think about anything don’t think about anything—/
“It’s impossible not to think about anything—“
Hoseok splutters as he points at him. “You! I told you /not/ to do that.”
“I promise that I really can’t help it, hyung, does it sound like fun to you?”
/Well…/
“It’s really not, especially when there's a lot of people around.”
“Well shit, I didn’t think about it like that. Is it… loud?”
“/So/ loud, you have no idea.”
Hoseok's expression becomes more sympathetic.
“How did this even happen? Like, were you bitten by a radioactive spider or cursed by a witch or something?”
Jungkook snorts. “I don’t think so, no. Actually, I have no clue.”
“Weird.”
“You don’t say.”
“So like, did you hear all of your coworkers’ darkest secrets?”
Jungkook grimaces. “Unfortunately. I tried to keep myself busy in order to ignore it but it’s harder than it sounds.”
“Well, that sucks.”
That’s a pretty good way to summarize this.
“And something even weirder happened.”
“Is that even possible?” Hoseok asks before he takes a big bite off the cupcake. He seems to be feeling a little more relaxed.
Jungkook gives him a grave nod.
“There’s this guy at work who’s like, very well known because he’s hot and kind and nice and super friendly—“
“I got it, he’s pretty great.”
“—right. And we aren’t even friends, okay? I mean, we became friendlier today but— never mind. Anyway, when he touches me, everything becomes quiet.”
“…Quiet like?”
“The thoughts, it’s like they become muted and it’s… amazing. But I have no idea why it is him of all people.”
“Did you, um, try to /touch/ other people to make sure that—“
“I did, nothing happened.”
Jungkook did try to test it out after their lunch break, which was super embarrassing but whatever, his coworkers can suck it up. It didn’t work, though, no one else’s touch had the same effect.
Hoseok considers this for a second.
“What in the soulmates-strangers-to-lovers au is this?”
“What?”
Hoseok waves him off. “Nothing, it’s just that… isn’t it suspicious that he’s the only one who can do that? Like, what’s the connection between you two?”
“I… have no clue?”
“That’s what you need to think about. The universe didn’t make it happen for no reason.”
Hoseok is a strong believer in fate, no wonder he finds logic in this.
“He’s coming with us tonight.”
Hoseok almost chokes on his coffee.
“He’s what now?”
Jungkook shrugs. “I just thought it would be better to have him around in case it all becomes too much. Like, I could just grab his hand, or something.”
Hoseok studies his face for a few seconds.
/Wait, can it be that…could it possibly be that…/
Hoseok’s lips curl up into a small smirk.
“Does Jungkookie have a crush?
“What?! N-No, of course not! W-what are you talking about? Actually, /he’s/ the one who has a crush on me—“
“Does he now?”
“—yes! He might be cute and handsome and charming and he likes animals—“
“Sounds pretty perfect to me.”
“— but I /don’t/ have a crush.” He says decisively.
Hoseok looks like he’s barely holding back a laugh.
/Jungkookie has a crush Jungkookie has a crush Jungkookie has a crush~/
“I told you I don’t!”
“You— I told you to stop doing that!”
“Then stop thinking weird things!”
“Get out of my fucking mind—“
They keep on arguing for a few minutes before they grow tired of it and Hoseok realizes he has to live with it for now.
He’s happy to discover, though, that Jungkook can hear his thoughts only when they are in close proximity.
/Thank god for that because Yoongi is planning on sleeping over tonight and—/
Jungkook pouts in sadness.
Well, that’s just great.
————
The rest of the evening passes by peacefully. Jungkook spends the majority of it googling ‘mind reading’ which… is probably not the best decision he’s ever made.
It’s all very hypothetical and strange and just not helpful at all. So after almost an hour of reading meaningless things, Jungkook gives up and figures it’s time to get ready.
He’s putting on an effort tonight (in fear of Seokjin’s wrath), so he hopes his checkered pants and black silk shirt are good enough. Personally, he thinks he looks pretty great - if he can say so himself.
Now if he could only ignore the fear of what’s waiting for him outside— everything would be great.
It’s not easy to do, though.
“You look great, Kookie!” Hoseok compliments him before they leave.
/When did he buy those pants? I don’t remember seeing them in his closet—/
“…You were looking through my closet?”
“W-What— just— I— j-just- shut up and let's go!”
Alright, then.
Luckily, Hoseok has a car so they don’t need to use public transportation. Hearing Hoseok thinking ‘don’t think about anything’ on repeat is still much better than dealing with all the random thoughts on the bus.
They soon reach Seokjin’s favorite bar — Cypher — and park nearby before they get out to meet their friends.
“So I suppose the others don’t know about this new superpower?” Hoseok asks discreetly.
“They obviously don’t. And you’re /not/ allowed to say a thing.”
Hoseok pouts. “Not even to Yoongi?”
“No.”
Jungkook ignores Hoseok’s puppy eyes because if he’s going to tell their friends about it, it’s not going to be right now in the middle of a bar.
And not when Taehyung is there.
Seokjin is already waiting at the entrance, leaning against his longtime boyfriend, Seojoon, aka Jungkook’s favorite hyung (but don’t tell Hoseok).
“Jungkook-ah! Happy birthday!” Seokjin squeals before he throws himself at him. He and Hoseok are too similar sometimes.
/Good job, baby, you look fiiine tonight. I knew you could do it—/
Jungkook barely stops himself from thanking him out loud when Seojoon steps forward to congratulate him as well.
“25, huh? Not such a baby anymore.” Seojoon says with a smile before he pulls him into a half-hug.
Jungkook can’t help but smile back at him.
“Thank you, hyung.”
Seokjin huffs, “you’re always so polite with him when /I/ am the one who raised you.”
“My eomma raised me well enough thank you very much.”
Seokjin pretends to be insulted while Seojoon pinches his cheek.
“Hey guys, Yoongi says he’s gonna be late, do you wanna go inside in the meantime?” Hoseok asks after he receives a text from Yoongi.
Seokjin nods. “Yeah, let’s—“
“Wait, we have to wait for Taehyung-hyung.”
“Oh right, your new boy toy.”
Jungkook glares at Seokjin. “He’s not /my/ anything.”
/Pfft, you’re not fooling anyone. This is the first time you’ve ever invited anyone to join us, and on your birthday too! Man, this guy must be something—/
Before Jungkook can put Seokjin in a choke-hold, Seojoon intervenes.
“Is he going to be here soon? Did he text you?”
It seems like Taehyung is one of those people who use a lot of emojis. He’s not going to admit that it’s kind of cute.
“Let’s wait for a few minutes, it’s just that he doesn’t know the place and—“
“It’s cool, Kook, we will wait.” Seojoon says with a kind smile.
There’s a reason he’s his favorite hyung.
While they are waiting there, Jungkook realizes that he can’t run away from hearing his friends’ thoughts.
/Don’t think about anything don’t think about anything don’t think about anything—/
/Is that Taehyung fella hotter than me? I doubt it. But he better treat my Kookie right. I need to make sure that he’s good enough for him, I need to stay focused—/
/Jinny looks so pretty tonight, I can’t wait until we get home and I can take off his—/
Jungkook literally starts singing in his mind just to stop himself from hearing his favorite hyung thinking dirty thoughts. Seojoon must stay pure, Seojoon is /innocent/—
“Hey, Jungkook-ssi?”
Jungkook is pulled back to reality when he hears Taehyung’s very distinctive voice. The older man stands there looking as fine as ever and Jungkook literally has to stop himself from staring at his /very/ exposed collarbones.
“Oh hyung, you made it.”
/Ahh hearing him calling me ‘hyung’ will never get old. And of course I made it, I would have canceled any other plans I had to be able to see him. God damn he looks gorgeous, even more than usual, like a dark angel—/
It seems like nothing has changed.
Just then Jungkook notices someone else standing next to Taehyung. It’s another man, slightly shorter than him, but almost as stunning with his blonde hair and pretty features.
When the other man clears his throat, it seems to remind Taehyung of his presence.
“R-Right, this is Park Jimin, one of my closest friends. Jimin, meet Jeon Jungkook.”
/His BEST friend, actually./
Jungkook bites his lip to stop himself from smiling.
“Nice meeting you, Jimin-ssi.”
“Likewise. And happy birthday.” Jimin says with a pleasant smile, but in the meantime, his eyes study him from head to toe.
/So this is Jeon Jungkook, huh? He’s hot, I won’t lie. A bit too cute for my tastes, but he fits Taehyung perfectly./
Jungkook isn’t sure if he should be offended or not.
When he notices his friends’ very obvious looks, Jungkook quickly makes the proper introductions.
Seokjin seems very eager to drill Taehyung with questions so Jungkook tries to delay it by offering to go inside.
“Let’s continue inside? It’s getting kind of cold.”
/He’s cold? Should I offer him my jacket? I really want to offer him my jacket—/
/My baby is cold? We should get inside immediately!/
/It’s not that cold, maybe it’s a side effect of being able to read other people’s minds—/
Jungkook barely holds back a sigh.
It’s going to be a long night.
————
/Should I order another beer? Maybe a red wine? Or a cocktail? Hmm decisions decisions— alright! Wine it is!/
Jungkook glances at the girl next to him, who’s currently ordering wine with a wide smile, and wonders if he should tell her that there’s something in her teeth.
The bartender seems to think the same.
/—Should I tell her or not? I don’t wanna be rude but it’s so obvious. Wait, why is that cute guy looking at me? Wow he’s hot—/
Jungkook’s eyes grow wide when he realizes that the bartender is talking about him and quickly turns his head to look at Seokjin, who took it upon himself to buy him drinks for the night.
Taehyung stands slightly behind them, waiting for his and Jimin’s drinks, while the rest of the guys are sitting at their table.
He has the slight urge to reach back, just a little bit, and touch Taehyung’s hand— so the thoughts will go away for a bit.
As expected, countless thoughts surrounded him as soon as he entered the place, and now he barely manages to concentrate on what his friend is telling him.
“…Jungkook? Jungkook! Are you ignoring me?”
Jungkook blinks when he hears Seokjin’s stern voice and tries to focus.
“Of course not.”
“I /said/ that the cute bartender is looking at you like you’re dessert.”
“Oh, really?” He acts clueless, even though he can hear the bartender’s thoughts all too well.
/Damn, those forearms and that chest…that FACE too. Maybe I should slip him my number with his drink? Man, he’s so hot, I just wanna grab those muscles and—/
Jungkook starts singing internally to block the man’s thoughts. He feels so objectified, like maybe he should cover himself with a robe or something.
“There you go, gorgeous, please tell me if you need /anything/ else.” The thirsty bartender puts his and Seokjin’s drinks on the table, but has eyes for Jungkook only.
His smile is probably meant to be seductive but it’s actually kind of creepy. Probably because Jungkook knows what’s going through his mind.
While he tries to think of an appropriate reply, someone pushes his way between Jungkook and Seokjin. He does it gently, but determinedly.
“Excuse me, I’m still waiting for my drinks.” Says Taehyung with an annoyed tone. He kind of has a reason though, he ordered before them.
/That damn sleaze ball is running his eyes all over my sweet angel like he’s his favorite apple pie. Jungkook is not /his/ anything! He’s pure and—/
“Right, I’m on it.” Says the bartender with a frown. “No need to get all stressed.”
Jungkook gasps while Taehyung’s stare turns into a glare and one of his hands grabs Jungkook’s thigh.
“I’m sorry? I thought your job was to serve us drinks, not to flirt.”
The bartender seems to hold himself back from saying something else and spares Jungkook another glance before he turns away to do as asked. His thoughts reveal his anger, though.
/Fucking asshole./
Very original.
Taehyung stares at the other man’s back for a few seconds while he works, but eventually turns to look at Jungkook, who’s already staring at him with wide eyes.
For a moment, Taehyung looks confused, unsure why Jungkook is looking at him that way. Until his eyes fall over his own hand that’s currently resting over Jungkook’s right thigh.
/SHIT WHAT DID I DO—/
Taehyung freaks out internally before he withdraws his hand as if it has been burned.
“I’m so sorry, I didn’t notice— I’m just sorry.”
Taehyung does seem remorseful, but Jungkook isn’t really that upset. If anything, he’s kind of… turned on?
Which is /absurd/. He’s not in junior high for god’s sake, he’s not supposed to get turned on by someone’s hand on his leg.
But it’s more than that. Taehyung’s assertive attitude is attractive as hell. It’s a little crazy how he can be so cute one moment and so /hot/ a moment later.
While Jungkook struggles internally, Seokjin’s thoughts invade his mind.
/Shit, he wants Jungkook so BAD./
Well, that’s one way of saying it.
————
“So you’re seriously telling me you’ve never noticed how hot your boss is?”
“Um, not really? But objectively he’s good looking.”
Jimin looks at Taehyung in disbelief, as if he has just committed the worst betrayal.
“What about you, Jungkook-ssi? Please be more reasonable.”
Jungkook shrugs, like he didn't have a huge crush on him for months. He got over it when Namjoon began dating Yurin from the marketing department.
“He’s hot.”
Jimin stares at him for a moment before he nods in acceptance.
“A man with a taste.”
/Their boss is so hot, I would literally climb him like a tree—/
Okay, then.
They’ve all been sitting there and drinking for the past 30 minutes and Jimin charmed his friends so quickly like it’s the most natural thing ever. A social butterfly by all means.
Even Yoongi seems entertained. And it’s not easy to entertain Yoongi.
Taehyung is less vocal than his friend, but that doesn’t mean that he’s less friendly. He’s been chatting with Hoseok for the past 10 minutes and they seem to be getting along well.
He even stopped thinking about Jungkook for a few minutes, which is apparently not an easy thing for him to do. Especially when they share the same space.
“Jungkookie, so how is it feels being 25?” Seojoon asks him with that kind smile of his.
“Not that different from 24, to be honest.”
Seojoon chuckles. “That’s what I always say when people ask me the same thing on my birthday. I don’t feel any different.”
He doesn’t look any different either. The man hasn’t aged since he turned 20.
“Taehyung-ssi,” Seokjin drawls, “how old are you? If you don’t mind me asking.”
Taehyung smiles good-naturally.
“It’s fine. I’m 27, so is Jimin. We met in high school.”
“That’s a long time to be friends.” Yoongi comments.
“I suppose—“
“We’re soulmates.” Jimin interrupts with a winning smile.
“That’s sweet.” Seokjin says. His thoughts are quite different.
/Are they fucking? If they are then Taehyung better stay the hell away from my baby. He’s not into threesomes— I think?… no way, he’s too pure for that—/
Jungkook kind of wants to slam his forehead on the table because this is /so/ fucking embarrassing. The only thing that keeps him going is the knowledge that it’s only /him/ who can hear these embarrassing things.
Jimin probably sees the calculating way Seokjin is looking at him and Taehyung because he quickly adds, “Completely /platonic/, of course.”
Taehyung joins in, “Like family.”
“I see.” Seokjin says while he keeps on eyeing them in suspicion.
Thankfully, his boyfriend is quick to change the subject.
“So how long have you been working together?” Seojoon asks him and Taehyung.
“Not long, a few months.” Taehyung ends up answering.
“And tell us the truth,” Yoongi intervenes, “How is Jungkook-ah at work? He’s always been a model student, he must be a stellar employee.”
“Oh, we don’t actually work side by side, but I’ve heard that he’s one of the best in his department. He works hard.”
When Yoongi wiggles his eyebrows at him, Jungkook is torn between blushing from the compliment and glaring at his most annoying hyung.
“Thank you, but I’m really nothing special—“
“Oh /please/,” Hoseok exclaimes, “you’re literally good at anything.”
/I mean it in the best way, by the way. You can hear me, right? Raise an eyebrow if you can!/
While Hoseok stares at him intently, waiting for the sign, Jungkook simply glares at him.
/Alright, that will do too./
Jungkook rolls his eyes while he finishes his second drink.
“Yo, Jungkook, didn’t you say that you don’t wanna get drunk today?” Hoseok asks.
“I’m not going to get drunk today.”
/Pfft, we both know you’re a light weight./
Jungkook starts regretting telling Hoseok about his secret ‘power’.
“Good at anything?” Taehyung asks with a curious expression.
Before Jungkook manages to respond, Seojoon answers for him.
“He’s good at anything he tries to do. Really, we’ve known each other since college, and I’ve never seen him fail at something.”
“Oh wow.” Taehyung turns to look at him with admiration.
/As expected of my angel./
Jungkook is glad that the lights are dim because his cheeks are probably red.
Surprisingly, it’s Jimin who comes to his rescue. “Alright, stop embarrassing him. Who wants another round?” He asks before he stands up.
“I do, please.” Jungkook asks politely and the other man quietly stares at him for a moment before he turns around.
/Okay fine, he’s endearing as fuck./
Jungkook quickly averts his eyes, wondering how many times you can blush in one night.
————
They all sit there for a while, just chatting and vibing to the music. Luckily, they talk about other things which are /not/ connected to Jungkook.
Ever since they made a toast and wished him a happy birthday, there were no other attempts to embarrass him.
When his third drink is half way gone, Jungkook feels the immediate need to go to the restroom. So he tells his friends he’ll be right back and makes his way over there.
He’s /not/ drunk, thank you very much, but he can admit that he might be a little tipsy. So when he hears some funny thoughts on the way, he finds himself giggling to himself like a weirdo.
There aren’t a lot of people in the restroom when he enters so he does his business and then takes a moment to check himself in the mirror.
His shirt is quite tight and he left a few buttons unbuttoned. Taehyung seems to quite enjoy the visual, judging by his somewhat unhinged thoughts at the sight of his bare skin.
With a mischievous smile, Jungkook opens another one.
Fine, so he /is/ tipsy.
When he gets out of the restroom, though, his good mood begins to disappear when he sees a large group of people gathered in the hallway leading back to the bar. Their thoughts are already causing him a headache and he still hasn’t passed by them.
With a sigh, Jungkook starts pushing his way forward, murmuring quiet apologizes while trying not to get dizzy from the onslaught of thoughts that surround him.
It’s almost too much combined with the already loud music.
Even when he’s finally out of there, it still feels like everything is too loud, so he takes a few minutes to gather himself while he leans on a nearby wall.
He’s not sure how long he stands there trying to block all the other thoughts, when someone says his name.
“Jungkook-ssi?”
Taehyung has probably said his name a few times because by the time Jungkook finally looks at him, he seems concerned.
“Taehyung hyung?”
“Are you alright?”
“Y-yes, just a little…dizzy.”
/Is he drunk? I didn’t realize he drank that much. What do I do? Should I call one of his friends?—/
“No!”
Taehyung’s eyes grow wide.
“…No?”
Shit, Taehyung didn’t ask that question out loud.
“S-Sorry, I thought I heard you ask something.”
“Do you want me to—“
“I think I need to step outside for a bit. Can you— can you come with me?”
Taehyung seems surprised for a second, but his concern overcomes any other emotion when he answers, “Of course.”
He stands there for a moment, probably waiting for Jungkook to detach himself from the wall.
That’s when Jungkook realizes he can finally use his secret ‘cure’.
“Can you help me?”
Taehyung frowns. “What do you mean?”
When Jungkook reaches out with his (slightly trembling) hand, Taehyung has a moment of realization.
/Oh, he wants me to hold his hand and help him walk outside? Is he dizzier than I realized? Or maybe he just likes holding hands? Shit, I should probably do something other than stare at his hand like a creep./
Taehyung grabs his hand, and suddenly it gets a little easier to breathe. It’s quieter, with just the sounds of the bar still there. It’s /so/ much better.
Jungkook squeezes Taehyung’s hand as they both start heading towards the entrance door, wondering how he could ever let go of it.
———
Thankfully, there aren’t many people outside, just a few smokers. So Jungkook pulls Taehyung towards an empty space where, he hopes, he won’t hear any other thoughts.
Except Taehyung’s, of course.
/He looks a little better. His cheeks are flushed, though, maybe I should get him some water—/
“Can we just stand here for a little while?” Jungkook asks while his hand tightens its hold on Taehyung’s hand, as if to keep him there.
“Sure.” Taehyung answers before he takes a few steps closer to him to lean against the building’s wall.
They stand in silence for a couple of minutes and Jungkook takes the time to gather his thoughts. Taehyung still hasn’t let go of his hand, as if he forgot about it. Jungkook isn’t about to remind him of it.
Even though there aren’t any other people in their vicinity, he feels safer this way.
“You’re feeling better now?”
“Much, thank you. I— I’m really not that drunk, I just felt dizzy.”
“It’s fine.”
“I feel like I’m constantly troubling you today.”
/Please feel free to trouble me all the time./
“It’s nothing.”
Jungkook bites his lip to stop himself from smiling.
“Did your day get better?”
“What?”
“You— you said you were having a bad day.”
Oh. Right. He did confess that earlier today.
Taehyung is watching him with big, honest eyes while he waits for a reply and Jungkook can’t help but think (again) that he’s one of the most beautiful men he has ever seen. And he’s also sweet, /and/ kind.
And for some reason he likes Jungkook.
“I— it got better, I guess. It’s nice hanging out with my friends.”
Taehyung’s lips curl up into a smile. “That’s good. Did you do everything you wanted to? It’s your birthday after all.”
With the all mind reading business occupying his time, Jungkook barely had time to actually enjoy his birthday. He thinks about it for a moment as he looks down at his watch and sees that it’s a little after 10pm. Only two more hours.
“Oh, I didn’t get a cake.”
Well, he did get /cupcakes/ but—
“Cake?”
Suddenly Jungkook feels a little shy.
“Usually I get a cake and blow out the candles and all that, but it’s a little childish so it doesn’t really matter—“
“Of course it is.” Taehyung insists as he reaches for his phone. Well, he /tries/ to reach for his phone when he realizes that he’s still holding Jungkook’s hand.
They both stare at each other for a moment. Taehyung seems surprised while Jungkook just feels awkward.
Eventually, he sees no other choice than letting go of the other man’s hand.
“Sorry, I didn’t notice.” Jungkook says with a fake smile while Taehyung blinks a couple of times before he manages to say, “Right. No problem.”
Taehyung then does something on his phone while Jungkook waits.
“Good, only a 10 minutes walk!” Taehyung cheers before he turns to look at Jungkook with a wide smile.
“To where?” Jungkook asks, confused.
“There’s a cafe close by, it’s still open. They probably have some cakes left.”
/If it is cake that he wants then cake he will get!/
Jungkook just stares at the other man, a bit stunned if he’s being honest. Taehyung is so willing to please him, to makes him /happy/, it’s a little overwhelming. But not in a bad way.
“O-Okay.” Jungkook finds himself agreeing, if only to keep Taehyung smiling at him like that, so happily.
Maybe they are more similar than he realized.
————
“Are you sure you’re okay, Jungkook-ssi?”
“You don’t have to keep on calling me /that/, you know.”
“Calling you what?”
“Jungkook-ssi. I already call you hyung, so you can be more casual with me.”
Taehyung’s lips twitch for a second, as if he was about to smile and barely stopped himself on time.
His thoughts, as usual, are more unhinged.
/Does it mean I can call him Jungkook-ah? Or Jungkookie? Or Kookie?? AHHHHHH—/
Jungkook coughs to cover up his snort.
They are on their way to the cafe Taehyung suggested and should be there any minute now. Before they left, Taehyung offered to call their friends and invite them to come along, but Jungkook told him it was fine.
He would never hear the end of it if they tagged along. He loves them, but they can be noisy as fuck.
Instead, Jungkook texted Hoseok and told him he’s taking a short walk with Taehyung because hearing everyone’s thoughts gave him a serious headache.
He trusts Hoseok to come up with some excuse.
When he asked Taehyung if it’s okay with him to leave Jimin alone with a bunch of people he doesn’t really know, the other man told him that if he locked Jimin alone in an empty room, the man would literally befriend the walls.
Jungkook figures he’ll be alright then.
“What kind of cake do you like, by the way?”
“Oh I can eat anything really.”
Taehyung smiles. “Not a picky eater?”
“Nah, my mom used to say that I’m like a human vacuum when it comes to tasty food.”
The other man lets out a laugh. “The food has to be /tasty/ then?”
Jungkook huffs. “Of course! What’s the point of it if it’s not?”
Taehyung looks at him, his eyes soft. “You have a point there.”
/He’s so cute./
Jungkook lowers his head to hide his blush.
“I’m not as easy as you when it comes to food, though.”
“Really? Oh right, you said you don’t like bitter things.”
Taehyung scrunches his nose in disgust. “More like /hate/ them. I also don’t like tomatoes or avocados. Oh, and I can’t really tolerate spicy food.”
Jungkook gasps. “What?! Then what about kimchi?”
“Umm,” Taehyung hums, “I can eat it when it’s mixed with something else, I guess.”
“That’s so un-Korean of you.”
“Oh stop!” Taehyung objects with a laugh. “I’m very patriotic just so you know.”
“Noted. Just no kimchi.”
“Yeah yeah I know, it’s basically a sin— Oh! There’s our place.”
Jungkook turns his head to see a small cafe that seems to be open— and almost empty.
Thank god.
Taehyung opens the door and allows him to enter first like a gentleman. The man is clearly a charmer, Jungkook doesn’t mind it all that much. It's kind of nice having someone put up an effort for you.
There’s another couple inside the cafe but plenty of empty spots— where he won’t have to worry about hearing random thoughts. Perfect.
“Jungkook-ah, look!”
Hearing Taehyung calling his name so casually makes his heart beat a little bit faster for some reason. He ignores it.
Taehyung is pointing at the cakes on display. Surprisingly, there are quite a few left. He eyes them while Taehyung tells the cashier that they want to pick a cake.
“What do you prefer?”
“I’m easy, remember?”
Taehyung snorts. “Right, but what you feel like eating now?”
“Why don’t you choose?”
Taehyung is clearly surprised. “Me? But it’s /your/ birthday.”
“Exactly, it’s my birthday so I get to decide, and I decide that /you’re/ going to choose.”
Taehyung seems bashful when he turns his head to look at the cakes.
/He’s so sweet. GOD he’s literally perfect. But I HAVE to choose something good, I won’t allow his birthday cake to be anything less than amazing—/
Jungkook does his best not to laugh at Taehyung’s determined expression. He clearly takes his ‘mission’ very seriously.
“Can we have this one?” He asks, hesitant, as he points at a white chocolate cake decorated with pink bunnies and strawberries.
/Ahhh bunnies always remind me of him. Something about his smile…/
Jungkook cocks his head at the cake. He doesn’t really see any similarities, but oh well.
“Sure. I love chocolate. And, er, bunnies.”
Taehyung laughs. “You’re sure about that? You seem skeptical.”
“Yeah, totally.”
After eyeing him for a few seconds, Taehyung nods in acceptance and turns to the young woman behind the counter, who has been patiently waiting for them to order.
“We will have that cake. And— do you want to drink something, Jungkook-ah?”
“Yes please, an americano.” That will sober him up completely.
Taehyung barely manages to conceal his disgust. “And for me chai latte, please.”
The girl smiles brightly. “Of course, that will be—“
After she tells them the price, Jungkook makes a move to take out his wallet, only to be stopped by Taehyung.
“Hey! I’m paying. I’m the hyung and it’s your birthday.”
“Oh happy birthday!” The woman tells him while she takes Taehyung’s card.
Jungkook murmurs his thanks before he frowns at Taehyung.
“I’m paying next time.”
Taehyung certainly doesn’t mind that.
/He said NEXT time. That means there will be next time. Next time next time next time~/
God he’s so cute.
When they are done paying, they are instructed to sit down and wait for their order. Jungkook chooses a table far away from anyone else, Taehyung doesn’t seem to mind.
“This place is cute, now let's just hope their cakes are good.”
“And their coffee.” Jungkook adds.
“Yes, of course.”
“Not that it should bother you all that much since you drink that sweet stuff.”
Taehyung scoffs. “That /sweet/ stuff is ten times better than that black death you’re drinking.”
Jungkook nearly chokes. “You’re such a baby.”
Taehyung takes out his tongue at him before Jungkook does the same, and they both laugh at their own childish-ness.
“You’re quite different from how I imagined you’d be.” Jungkook admits.
“What do you mean?”
“You always seemed so…cool and refined. Today I realized you’re more laid back.” And cute.
“So you don’t think I’m cool anymore?” Taehyung asks way too seriously.
“I didn’t say that…” Jungkook replies, sheepish, before Taehyung smiles.
“It’s fine, it’s better that way. I don’t want you to think that I’m unapproachable.”
/Please approach me whenever you want, like really, at any time—/
Jungkook makes sure to keep his expression neutral.
“I also learned new things about you.”
“You did?”
Taehyung nods. “I thought you were shy because you were always so quiet. But you’re much more daring than I realized.”
“…Daring?”
“Like, you’re not actually that shy. You’re just quiet. And you’re not afraid to ask for what you want.”
/Like holding hands./
Right.
Jungkook bites his lip, a little self conscious.
“You’re right, I guess. It’s not like I’m too shy to speak to other people, I just prefer to keep to myself.”
“But you’re different when you're with your friends.”
“I suppose I just feel more comfortable with them. But still, I would’ve preferred spending the night playing video games at home.”
Taehyung’s eyes sparkle with interest. “Oh you like video games? Me too! What have you been playing lately?”
Somewhat excitedly, Jungkook tells him about the recent game he’s been obsessing about, and they later talk about their favorite type of games in general.
Which is when Jungkook learns that Taehyung hates horror games (and horror in general) and usually plays after work to distress. Jungkook can definitely relate.
Their discussion is interrupted when the nice woman from before comes over with their drinks and cake.
She places them on the table with two small plates and a few candles.
“I also brought a lighter.” She says with a smile as she places it on the table as well.
She then looks at the two of them before she asks, “Do you want me to take a picture of you?”
Picture?
/They are such a cute couple, both of them are so handsome!/
Jungkook is pretty sure that his alarm is quite obvious on his face but the woman just keeps on smiling, oblivious.
There is someone else who’s as oblivious.
“Sure. What do you say, Jungkook-ah?”
Taehyung sounds so excited about it that Jungkook simply /has/ to agree. And when Taehyung hands her his phone, Jungkook does his best to smile prettily at the camera, but he’s pretty sure that it seems more like a nervous grimace.
“Thank you.” Taehyung says when she gives him back his phone.
“No problem. Enjoy the rest of your date.”
/I hope they will get married one day and adopt beautiful babies. They look so good together I can’t even—/
Jungkook literally gaps at her back until she’s too far away for him to hear her thoughts.
“Are you alright?”
Jungkook quickly closes his mouth.
“Yeah, of course.”
No, he’s not. Do they look like a couple? Why isn’t he more upset about the idea? And /why/ does he feel giddy all of the sudden?
No. He needs to play it cool.
“You don’t…/mind/ her assumption?” Taehyung asks carefully.
Jungkook doesn’t know how to answer without sounding too forward or too indifferent so he just shrugs and smiles like it’s not a big deal.
“It’s not like she thinks we’re serial killers.”
Taehyung lets out a snort. “Well, thank god for that. I suppose dating is the better option in this case.”
Jungkook simply nods while he tries to occupy himself with something else - like placing the candles on the cake.
She only brought two, but it doesn’t really matter all that much. It’s the thought that counts.
When he raises his eyes, he sees Taehyung looking back at him, his expression soft and fond. It makes him feel a little shy
“I’ve never celebrated my birthday with a boyfriend, or a girlfriend.”
Jungkook’s confession seems to surprise the other man.
“Really?”
/How is it even possible? Is the rest of the world blind? My angel is literally perfect—/
Jungkook clears his throat.
“I mean, I dated here and there, it just never became serious.”
“Oh.”
Taehyung is probably too scared to ask the million questions that are currently running through his mind, so Jungkook decides to help him out.
“I guess…I guess I was scared of falling too deep. My parents they— they were literal soulmates and when my dad died—“
Taehyung's face falls.
“—my mom, she never really recovered. And it’s scary, you know? Giving yourself away like that, when the other person - or his absence - can literally break you.”
Taehyung just stares at him for a bit, his eyes impossibly sad.
“I’m sorry for your loss.”
Jungkook waves him off. “It’s fine, I barely remember him. It’s my mom who suffered the most.”
/You suffered too, even if you deny it./
Jungkook lowers his eyes to the table.
“Anyway! Sorry for ruining the mood—“
“You didn’t ruin anything.” Taehyung quickly denies, “And you know what? I’m going to give you the full boyfriend experience.”
“E-Excuse me?”
With a mischievous smile, Taehyung picks up the lighter.
“My Jungkookie is a big boy now but you still have to make a wish—“
When did he become /his/ Jungkookie?
“—and I’m also going to sing you a little song.”
“Don’t—“
“Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you! Happy birthday my /angel/, happy birthday to you!”
Jungkook stares at Taehyung’s smiling face while the candle lights flicker between them, not sure how to respond. Underneath Taehyung’s confident smile there’s a hint of nerves, and his thoughts reveal the same.
/Shit, did I fuck up? I hope he didn’t take it too seriously… even though I DO want him to take it seriously, but—/
Taehyung’s inner struggles are as entertaining as always and it makes him feel a little more relaxed as he looks down at the burning candles.
A wish, huh?
As he blows out the candles, wishing to (obviously) stop hearing other people’s thoughts as soon as possible, he wonders for a moment - what did he wish for last year?
He can’t quite remember.
—————
“You don’t like it.”
“It’s not bad...”
“But you don’t like it.”
Jungkook looks down at the piece of cake in front of him. He only ate some of it but he can’t exactly deny Taehyung’s statement.
Jungkook likes sweet desserts but this one is almost /too/ sweet.
Taehyung doesn’t seem to mind it. Jungkook watches him as he quickly devours his second piece, completely unbothered by the overwhelming amount of sugar in it.
“You’re enjoying it, so.”
“But it’s not /my/ birthday.” Taehyung reminds him.
“I blew out the candles, I had my moment. And my birthday is almost done anyways.”
It's almost 11 pm. His day is almost over.
“Is there anything else you’d like to do?” Taehyung asks.
Jungkook thinks about it for a second.
“I don’t think so, no. Oh— you have something here…” Jungkook gestures to the general area of Taehyung’s mouth. He has some cream just on the corner of it.
Taehyung startles. “Really? Oh no…”
/So embarrassing./
Taehyung reaches out for the napkins at the same time Jungkook does and their fingers collide. They both freeze. Jungkook was just trying to get a napkin for Taehyung anyway so he waits for him to move first.
Only that he doesn’t. His mind is blank too, Jungkook doesn’t catch any wandering thoughts while Taehyung stares at their hands without reacting to the situation at all.
When a few awkward seconds pass, Jungkook figures he should move first. With a curious glance at Taehyung he slowly grabs a napkin and hands it over to the other man
“T-Thanks.”
/Snap out of it! You already held his hand. It’s just a /hand/, a very pretty one but you’re not in grade school—/
Why does it feel like a kdrama all of the sudden? The next thing he knows he’s gonna trip over something and Taehyung is going to try and catch him, but then he’ll ‘accidently’ fall on top of him and they will proceed to stare into each other’s eyes—
Oh wow he can actually imagine this almost too well. He blames Hoseok’s drama-addiction.
Okay, time to change the subject.
“You can take the leftovers if you want.”
Taehyung blinks in surprise. “But it’s yours.”
Jungkook grimaces. “I think you will appreciate it better. I already have your cupcakes anyway, and they are so good.”
Taehyung immediately perks up. “Really?”
/I needs to send Jimin a care package or something, he really saved me with these cupcakes—/
Oh, so it was Jimin who baked them. Jungkook puts his hand over his mouth to cover his smile, pretending to wipe off some leftover crumbs.
“Yes. Hoseok liked them a lot too.”
“Or right, you guys are roommates. It must be fun.”
“It is, if you ignore the fact that he leaves his dirty clothes all over the place.”
Taehyung lets out a small laugh. “I’ve never lived with anyone other than my parents. Dirty clothes aside, it sounds like a fun experience.”
Jungkook shrugs. “He’s lucky I love him, let’s leave it at that.”
/He really is lucky./
That thought makes Jungkook startle. There’s something so sincere about it, as if Taehyung actually envies his friend for having Jungkook’s affection. As if it’s something precious.
As he ponders over that, he receives a text that manages to distract him.
“Seokjin-hyung asks when we’re coming back. He said I won’t get my present if I ignore him.”
Taehyung snickers. “Well, we can’t have that.”
They decide to head back to the bar and ask for the leftover cake to be packaged. As promised, Jungkook hands it over to Taehyung— while ignoring his complaints.
Outside, the weather is chilly but not terribly cold. With his jacket on, Jungkook feels warm enough.
“It’s so quiet here.” Taehyung says as they walk through the somewhat deserted street.
“It’s the beginning of the week, most people are probably sleeping.”
“Except for those who have a birthday.”
Jungkook smiles. “Gotta make it last.”
As long as there aren’t many people around.
Being alone with Taehyung though, is nice, calming, even if the other man’s thoughts sometimes crack him up.
Taehyung gives him a sense of security he can’t quite explain. Yes, the fact that his touch drives away all the other thoughts is a good explanation, but it’s not just that. It’s something about his aura, his soft smile, his gentle eyes.
He makes Jungkook feel safe.
Jungkook is surprised to realize that he doesn’t want the night to end yet.
“Look— a playground.” Taehyung says when he spots a small alley leading to an empty playground. “I don’t know why but seeing it at night gives me the creeps.”
With a mischievous smile Jungkook asks, “Oh really? Are you afraid of ghosts?” Without a second thought, he starts heading over there.
“Jungkook-ah!” Taehyung calls out to him, alarmed.
Jungkook glances at him over his shoulder. “What? Are you scared?”
Taehyung huffs. “Of course not.”
/Kind of./
Jungkook bites his lip as he keeps on walking, sure that Taehyung would follow eventually.
He’s right.
/I can’t let him go by himself. He’s still tipsy, what if he falls off the swing?/
It’s a small playground for the kids of the neighborhood so there aren’t many swings or slides, but it’s obviously enough for the two of them.
“Hyung, can you give me a push?” Jungkook asks with a cheeky smile just before he sits down on one of the swings.
Taehyung is clearly wary and looks around as if a serial killer might jump on them any moment now. It’s a little endearing.
“Sure.”
Taehyung gives him a light push and Jungkook folds his legs, feeling for a second like a little kid.
“Your friends aren’t waiting for us?”
“They can wait a few more minutes.”
Taehyung snorts as he sits down on the swing next to him. “You’re a little handful, huh?”
With his best innocent eyes Jungkook asks, “Who? /Me/?”
Taehyung is surprised only for a second before he chuckles.
/I really like this side of him. Less reserved, more open and playful. I want to see more…/
Jungkook feels his cheeks warm under Taehyung’s soft gaze and turns his eyes away to look at the grass under his feet.
“I haven’t been in a playground in years.” Taehyung confesses.
“I recently went with Hoseok and his niece. She’s so cute, made me chase her around for hours.”
“That doesn’t sound like so much fun.”
Jungkook giggles. “It’s good I’m in shape. Hoseok gave up at some point and lay down on a bench.”
Taehyung hums. “I can imagine that. I bet you’re good with kids.”
“I have a feeling you’re good with them too.”
Taehyung contemplates that before he says, “I have 3 younger siblings, I didn’t have much of a choice.”
“Oh wow, 3? Lucky.”
Taehyung doesn’t seem to think so. “It depends which day you ask me.”
“I wish I had a brother, or a sister.”
They stay quiet for a moment before it seems like Taehyung has put two and two together.
“Shit, I’m /sorry/, I forgot about your father—“
Jungkook waves him off. “It’s fine, I told you it happened a long time ago.”
/Wonderful, great job Kim, being totally insensitive? Check./
Taehyung is unnecessarily harsh on himself, so Jungkook tries to cheer him up.
“I swear it’s fine. Actually, you helped me keep our family tradition today.”
“Tradition?”
“It’s a tradition my mom started when I was a kid. She used to say that if I make a wish on my birthday, my dad will make sure it’ll come true from heaven.”
“That’s a nice sentiment. Especially for a child.”
Jungkook nods. “I believed that for years, until I grew up and, you know.” He shrugs as he looks up at the dark, cloudless sky, a little shy to expose his childish way of thinking. That silly little belief stayed with him for years.
He feels Taehyung’s stare, but the other man remains quiet for a bit while he watches him look up at the sky.
“Hey,” Taehyung eventually says, making Jungkook turn his head to look at him. “It’s fine if you still believe that. It’s a good thing to believe in.”
For some reason those words make his eyes sting a little bit, and Taehyung’s soft gaze makes him feel even more vulnerable.
Luckily, Taehyung notices his emotional reaction because the next thing he does is to try and lighten up the atmosphere.
“I, for one, am a strong believer in birthday wishes!” He declares, unashamed.
“Really? What did you wish for last time?”
Slightly sheepish, Taehyung rubs the back of his neck before he answers. “I wished to meet my soulmate.”
Jungkook blinks at him, not sure he heard correctly.
“You—“
“You heard me right. I know it’s kinda stupid but… I was a little drunk and Jimin and I had just finished watching the notebook. I might have been a little emotional.”
Jungkook grins, very much amused.
/Oh he’s smiling! That’s good, my plan worked. No more sad thoughts on his birthday./
Taehyung is kind, almost too kind.
“It’s cute, actually.”
Taehyung pinches his lips and bows his head, but Jungkook can still detect his red ears.
So cute.
Their little moment is interrupted when Jungkook’s phone begins to ring. It doesn’t take a genius to guess that it must be Seokjin.
By mistake, he presses the speaker when he answers and Seokjin’s loud voice makes them both startle.
“Jeon Jungkook! Where the hell are you?! It’s almost midnight and we didn’t make a final toast, or give you your presents! How can you—“
While Seokjin keeps on rumbling, Taehyung and Jungkook share an amused look, barely holding back their laughter.
While he looks at the other man, Jungkook wonders when was the last time he felt so comfortable with someone new.
————-
Their friends are already waiting for them outside the bar when they finally return, and Jungkook had such a peaceful time with Taehyung that he almost forgot about the all mind reading business. He’s quickly reminded of it.
/Oh so that’s how it is? They look cute together./
/I can’t believe he ditched us for a man, completely UNFORGIVABLE—/
/Jungkook is all grown up, huh?/
/Can you still read minds? Wink if you do!/
/Did they fuck? God I hope they did because if I have to listen to Tae pining over the guy for another day I’ll—/
Jungkook goes from wanting to slap his friends to feeling the need to hide from Jimin’s curious eyes - that apparently try to trace any signs of sexual activity.
He’s going to be deeply disappointed.
After letting Seokjin scold him for 5 minutes straight, they all decide to head back home. It’s 11:50 and they all need to work tomorrow. They make plans to continue the celebrations on the weekend, though.
They also give Jungkook his presents, which he promises to open back home.
Then they all say their goodbyes and Jungkook allows his friends to hug him a bit too tightly before they leave.
But when Taehyung’s turn comes, it becomes a little more awkward. Thankfully, Jimin makes himself scarce to offer them some privacy and actually— Jungkook doesn’t mind it.
Because if he’s planning on doing something embarrassing, he might as well do it privately.
(He’s pretty sure Yoongi and Hoseok are peeking from around the corner but whatever.)
/Should I just clap his back? No, that’s too distant. Maybe a hug? But a short one! Or maybe—/
Jungkook ends up solving Taehyung’s dilemma when he steps closer to him to press a soft kiss on his cheek.
Taehyung literally stops breathing, his only reaction is to grab the hem of Jungkook’s jacket, as if to keep him there. His skin is smooth and soft under his lips, which kind of makes Jungkook want to kiss him a little more…
But not now, he tells himself when he pulls back, they’ll both might actually combust if he does.
Taehyung seems a little starstruck as he stares at Jungkook like he’s wondering whether he’s real, while Jungkook does his best to appear confident even though he feels like his cheeks are actually on fire.
“See you tomorrow, hyung. Thanks for today.”
Taehyung is still staring when Jungkook starts walking away, and his mind is exceptionally blank. When Jungkook raises his hand to wave at him, he automatically does the same, mimicking him.
Only when he turns his back to the other man, Taehyung finally snaps.
/OH MY GODDDD—/
Jungkook covers up his mouth to conceal his laughter, and ignores Hoseok’s and Yoongi’s knowing looks when he meets them next to his roommate’s car.
/What drama is this? A kiss on the cheek?? Just bang already! JK! I know you can hear me—/
/That was way too innocent for my eyes, I’m too old and jaded—/
Jungkook simply rolls his eyes and he enters the car.
It’s a little after 12 when they arrive back home and Jungkook is exhausted. He feels drained after the day he’d just had and wants nothing more than to fall on his bed and sleep.
He says a short goodnight to his hyungs - while praying that they won’t be too loud - before he closes himself in his bedroom.
Countless thoughts run through his mind while he gets ready to bed. Thoughts of his ‘gift’, his father… and mostly Taehyung.
Somehow the end of the night turned out to be the best part of his day. He doesn’t even remember the last time he felt so giddy at the thought of seeing someone again. He isn’t even sure if he ever felt that way.
Later, as he closes his eyes and slowly falls into sleep, he remembers something important. Something that happened exactly a year ago when he was at home with his friends, blowing out the candles on his 24th birthday.
He was tipsy and a little lonely watching his friends being all happy with their special someone. He wanted to know what it feels like too, although he was scared.
So he made his wish. He wished to know what it’s like to fall in love.
—————-
When Jungkook wakes up the next morning he glares at the ceiling for a few minutes while he slowly recalls yesterday’s events, wondering for a moment if maybe it was all just a dream.
Eventually he figures that it was definitely /not/ a dream and forces himself to get out of bed. He has to get ready for work and he’s already running late.
The apartment is quiet when he steps outside of his bedroom and goes straight to the bathroom. A quick look at the mirror confirms that he doesn’t just feel tired - he also looks tired.
He fell asleep straight away last night but had lots of weird dreams. He barely remembers them now but they interrupted his peaceful sleep more than once.
He sighs before he washes his face and brushes his teeth. A quick shower is next, and when he finally steps out of the bathroom, he hears the sound of the coffee machine from the kitchen.
Ah, coffee sounds like heaven right now.
He puts some clothes on and decides he’ll fix his hair later before he leaves his bedroom for the second time.
Yoongi is the one who’s making coffee. He stands with his back to Jungkook but hears him anyway when he walks in.
“Good morning, wants some coffee?”
“You’re an angel.”
Yoongi snorts and takes out another mug from the cupboard.
While his hyung takes care of their drinks, Jungkoook decides to make some toast. He takes out a few slices of bread before putting them in the toaster and turns to look at Yoongi while he waits.
Yoongi’s hair looks like a bird’s nest and it kind of makes him want to pinch his cheeks. He’s so cute sometimes, but Jungkook has already learned to /never/ call him ‘cute’ out loud. Yoongi can also be terrifying when he wants to.
It’s while he’s staring at Yoongi that he figures out that something is different, something is /missing/. He can’t really put his finger on it but—
Hold on.
Yoongi’s thoughts - where are they?
With a gasp he grabs Yoongi’s shoulders, forcing the other man to look at him. Yoongi yelps when he nearly spills the milk and frowns at him in confusion.
“What’s up with you—“
“Are you thinking right now?”
“I— excuse me?”
Jungkook squints while he stares at Yoongi, trying to hear something — /anything/.
“Hey, Jungkook?” Yoongi asks when Jungkook keeps on staring at him without doing anything else, and when he tries to shake him off without any success, he literally calls for help.
“Hobi!! Come over here right now!”
It’s actually impressive how fast Hoseok gets there. He’s in the middle of putting on his shirt when he rushes into the kitchen.
“Wha— Jungkook! What’s going on, man? Let go of my Yoongi!”
As soon as Jungkook hears his roommate’s voice he turns his head to look at him, like a predator recognizing a new prey.
“You!” Jungkook says as he points at Hoseok, who slowly raises his hand to point at himself. “Me?”
Jungkook lets go of Yoongi and pounces on Hoseok instead.
“Whoa! What’s wrong—“
“You’re not thinking!”
“That’s…a little offensive—“
“No! I mean— I can’t /hear/ anything, you’re not thinking!”
Hoseok’s eyes grow wider when he finally realizes what’s going on.
“But /I am/ thinking, you— you can’t hear me?”
“I—“ It finally dawns on him that it’s not his friends who aren’t having any thoughts, it’s /him/ who can no longer hear them.
Slowly, a wide smile stretches his lips. Hoseok immediately mimics him.
“You can’t read my mind?”
“I can’t!”
They both squeal in happiness before they grab each other's hands and start twirling around.
Somewhere behind them, Yoongi is silently judging them, but honestly Jungkook couldn’t care less.
The ‘gift’ is gone, he is free.
—————
Jungkook can’t stop smiling on his way to work.
He smiles at his neighbors in the elevator when he finds out that - thankfully - he can’t hear their thoughts too.
Then he smiles at the people on the bus because hey! He can’t hear their thoughts either. And by the time he arrives at the office, he’s having the best morning ever.
“Good morning, noona~!”
“Good morning, Jungkook-ah, you look cheerful today.”
“That’s because I am!” Jungkook tells Hyein before he skips the rest of the way to his desk.
The office is blissfully quiet. Not overly so because he can still hear his colleagues talking to each other — but that’s it, not a single thought reaches his ears. It’s amazing.
When he sits down and turns on his computer he’s in such a good mood that he doesn’t want to analyze it. He doesn’t want to try and figure out why the gift is suddenly gone because he’s just grateful that it is.
Having special abilities is totally overrated and he’s glad to be normal again.
He’s so caught up in his own bubble of happiness that he nearly misses the sound of his name being called, and when he looks up with a bright smile, he sees a familiar face that immediately brings back the memories of last night.
“Good morning, Jungkook-ah,” says Taehyung. He looks as handsome as ever in gray slacks and light blue shirt. His smile is gentle and his eyes are warm as he looks down at him.
Jungkook’s heart nearly skips a beat. Such a cliche.
“Hyung, good morning.”
“Did you sleep well?”
“Oh I literally passed out, I was exhausted.”
“Me too. You look…happy today.”
“I’m having a good morning.”
“That’s great.” Taehyung says and he sounds sincere, like he’s genuinely happy that Jungkook is.
But when they both stop and stare at each other for a few seconds — that’s when things start to feel weird.
It’s so…quiet.
Yesterday, Jungkook got so used to hearing Taehyung’s thoughts - which mostly consisted of him - and it made him feel a little more brave to say or do certain things.
But now he has no clue what’s going through Taehyung’s mind.
And it’s a little scary not knowing.
When the silence becomes a bit awkward, Taehyung’s smile becomes more strained while Jungkook’s cheerfulness dims.
“So, um, I hope the rest of your day will be as good as this morning.”
“Oh, thanks. Y-You too, I hope you’ll have a good day.”
Taehyung smiles and thanks him before he turns to leave. He hesitates for a second and Jungkook literally holds his breath, but then he ends up leaving without saying anything else.
As he walks away, Jungkook’s smile slowly falls.
Why does he feel so empty all of the sudden?
He shakes his head to snap out of it. Today is a /good/ day, everything will be fine.
—————-
The rest of the day goes by as usual. Jungkook focuses on his work, he talks to his colleagues, he goes out for lunch, he even gets praised by Namjoon for finishing his latest project earlier than expected.
Everything is going great.
So why isn’t he satisfied?
He got his wish, he can’t read minds anymore, he’s back to his usual routine.
But Taehyung…Taehyung is not with him.
/Physically/ he is, they work at the same office after all. But each time they accidently meet, they just greet each other and walk away.
It feels like yesterday didn’t really happen. Like they are back to the way they acted around each other before - polite and respectful, and nothing more.
And it feels wrong.
It feels wrong that he can’t hear Taehyung’s cute little freak outs or see his flushed cheeks and boxy smiles.
But now that he can’t hear the other man’s thoughts, he feels less confident to initiate anything. Without the ability to hear Taehyung’s thoughts, he has no way of knowing his true feelings.
Logically, Jungkook realizes that it’s stupid. That there’s no way Taehyung’s feelings changed that much over night.
But emotions usually aren’t rational, and he can’t ignore his own fears.
And so the day ends and he goes home, and then a new day starts and everything is the same, and so on.
On the third day, Jungkook begins to wonder if maybe he imagined the whole thing. Maybe Taehyung doesn’t like him /that/ much, maybe he didn’t enjoy their time together as much as he thought he did.
While he agonizes over this, he runs into Taehyung in the break room. He’s making his fifth coffee of the day (it’s nearly 5pm and he’s tired) when Taehyung casually walks in.
They both freeze and stare.
They are completely alone for the first time in days. Usually when they see each other there are other people around, but now it’s just the two of them.
“Jungkook-ah,” Taehyung starts, somewhat sheepish, “how are you?”
Jungkook gulps before he answers, “good, and you?”
“Great, just a little tired, it’s been a long day.” Taehyung gives him a small smile that he can’t help but return.
“Me too, can’t wait to go home and eat Hoseok’s kimchi jjigae.”
“Oh he cooks?”
“One of us has to.”
Taehyung chuckles. “I’m not that good at cooking unfortunately, but I do my best.”
Jungkook smiles again while they both grow quiet. He wonders what Taehyung is thinking right now, if he’s anxious, happy, sad. He has no way of knowing.
A small voice in his head reminds him that he can just /ask/, but he’s kind of…scared to do so. What if Taehyung doesn't like his questions?
And so he stays quiet while Taehyung keeps on looking at him. It almost seems like he’s studying him, as if he’s looking for something in his expression.
But he doesn’t seem to find it.
He lowers his eyes and shakes his head before he says, “Well, I should get back to work. I just wanted a glass of water.”
“O-Oh sure.”
He moves to the side while Taehyung pours himself a glass of water, and tries hard to focus on his own coffee but ends up just stirring it aimlessly while listening to Taehyung’s every move.
“Jungkook-ah.”
Jungkook immediately turns around, his eyes wide and expectant.
“Yes?”
“Would you like to—“
“Yo Jungkook! Wanna step outside for— Oh hey, Taehyung-ssi.”
Jingoo seems surprised to see Taehyung standing there next to him, but Jungkook couldn’t care less, he just wants to hear the rest of Taehyung’s question.
“Hyung?”
Taehyung looks at Jingoo and then back at him before he shakes his head and smiles.
“It’s nothing. I’ll see you later, Jungkook-ah, Jingoo-ssi.”
And just like that, the moment ends.
Jungkook stares at Taehyung’s back until he’s out of the room, and keeps on staring at the door after that.
Jingoo remains quiet while he starts making his own coffee, but eventually he breaks the silence.
“You’re good now?”
“What?”
“You and Taehyung, are you good now?”
Jungkook frowns, confused. “Why wouldn’t we be?”
Jingoo shrugs. “You were cool on your birthday, I thought you hit it off, but then you became distant again. It’s a little sad seeing him staring at you like a lost puppy whenever you’re not looking at him.”
Wait, what?
“What do you mean?”
Jingoo cocks his head at him. “So you really haven’t noticed? Like, ever?”
“Noticed what?”
“Man, he’s been into you for the longest time. It’s so obvious, but I think he’s shy when it comes to these things. If you hadn’t invited him to your birthday party, he would have never tried to make a move.”
Huh?
“I thought something happened between the two of you on your birthday because you were so happy the day after, but now I’m not so sure.”
“I… see.”
“Sorry for meddling, I didn’t mean to upset you.”
“It’s— it’s fine.”
“Cool. Wanna step outside for a bit? I could use some fresh air.”
Jungkook nods absentmindedly because he’s still processing what Jingoo has just told him.
He knew about Taehyung’s crush, of course he did - he heard his goddamn thoughts. But was it really that obvious? Was Jungkook really that oblivious?
If he never got the ability to read minds in the first place, it’s possible that he never would have known about Taehyung’s feelings. He would have never allowed himself to feel something for him either.
/I wish to know what it’s like to fall in love./
Jungkook gasps out loud.
“Hey man, you’re okay?” Jingoo asks, but Jungkook isn’t listening.
He never asked for special abilities, he asked for something else.
What if…?
No way.
Jungkook slams his coffee mug on the table, barely even noticing when it spills some on his hand.
“No way.” He repeats out loud.
“What—“
Before Jingoo manages to finish the question, Jungkook is already out of there.
And then he’s running, through the hallways, past his colleagues, until he reaches Taehyung’s office.
It’s empty.
He’s out of breath as he looks around, seeing the secretary looking at him in confusion.
“Hyung— I mean, Taehyung-ssi, where is he?”
“Oh, I think he’s outside on the balcony—“
Before she even finishes the sentence, he’s running once again.
He’s barely even thinking, he isn’t sure what he’s going to say or do once he sees Taehyung, but the one thing he does know is that he /has/ to see him.
Taehyung is standing outside by himself, next to the railing. He glances at the door when Jungkook opens it, probably expecting to see one of their colleagues.
He clearly doesn’t expect to see Jungkook there, panting like he’s just ran a marathon.
“What—“
“You!” Jungkook says, pointing at Taehyung like he’s guilty of something.
Taehyung startles. “Y-Yes?”
“You like me, don’t you?”
Taehyung’s eyes grow impossibly wide and he opens and closes his mouth a couple of times before he stutters, “W-what are y-you…”
Jungkook’s face feels way too hot as he keeps going, “You like me, and I-I like you, so why are we acting like this?”
“L-Like what? And w-wait, you /like/ me? What—“
“How can I not when you’re so nice, and caring, and sweet and goddamn hot?”
Taehyung flushes all the way to his ears and tries to take a step forward, but Jungkook stops him.
“Wait! If you come too close I won’t be able to ask you.”
“Ask me what?” Taehyung’s voice is so soft.
“If you want to go o-out with me sometime? Like, just the t-two of us.”
Jungkook immediately feels the need to facepalm because /what the fuck/ of course it’ll be just the two of them.
Taehyung also seems amused, and a little touched.
“Can I come closer now? Please?”
Jungkook nods as he braces himself for anything.
Then Taehyung is standing there, right in front of him, red faced and anxious, but clearly happy and hopeful.
“Jeon Jungkook.”
“Yes?”
“You’re so unfair, and so much braver than me. I wanted to ask you the same thing for so long.”
“I’m sorry—“
Taehyung chuckles, “don’t apologize for this. I’m actually thankful. I’ve always been fascinated by you, even more so after your birthday, but I wasn’t sure you felt the same—“
“I did, I /do/!”
Taehyung’s smile grows even bigger.
“Okay, then please go out with me - whenever, wherever, I don’t care.”
Jungkook feels something in his chest melt as the feeling of absolute joy spreads through this body. He wants to jump, he wants to twirl, but for now, he can only do something else.
Slowly, gently, he reaches out for Taehyung’s hand. The other man immediately raises it to meet him halfway, and then Jungkook is intertwining their fingers, and it feels like they just fit together perfectly, like puzzle pieces.
When he looks up at Taehyung’s face, he sees a smile that mirrors his own, and eyes full of so much fondness.
Maybe it’s his wish that made this happen and maybe it isn’t, but it doesn’t really matter. Now he knows that he has nothing to be scared of. Taehyung cares for him, and Jungkook cares for him too.
And this feeling will only grow with time.
“Alright, how do you feel about playground dates?”
—————
“You have no idea how happy I am about this, I was getting ready to butt in before Taehyung told me that you /finally/ got together.”
“Jiminie, you’re over exaggerating.”
“Uh, I’m really not.”
Jungkook shakes his head at them before drinking some more wine.
It’s Friday night and they all went out together. Seokjin and Seojoon are going to join them soon, they got stuck in traffic or something.
A month has passed since Jungkook and Taehyung began dating and things have been great so far.
It didn’t take long for their colleagues to find out about the relationship - even though they tried to stay quiet about it - and they have since become the office’s most beloved couple. It’s a little embarrassing if he’s being real honest about it.
Their friends were also thrilled, Jimin in particular because apparently, he tried for months to convince Taehyung to do something about his crush.
For the past month they mostly kept to themselves and haven’t really gone out on group dates, so tonight is one of the first times Jimin has seen them together.
“I’m gonna be right back, nature is calling.” Jimin lets them know before he heads over to the restroom.
“He’s never going to let this go.” Taehyung says with a sigh.
“Well, you’ve been pining for months.”
“It wasn’t for that long!”
Jungkook gives him a look.
Taehyung surrenders with a pout.
“Fine! I was just shy and you barely looked my way.”
“I already apologized and in my defense, I didn’t believe it was possible for you to like me like this. I mean, look at you.” He points at Taehyung’s impossibly beautiful face.
Taehyung rolls his eyes.
“As if you aren’t one of the most attractive guys in the office. Hell, in /Seoul/.”
He rolls his eyes too but is secretly pleased. He still remembers Taehyung’s internal freak outs about Jungkook’s ‘hotness’.
But Taehyung is so modest that he rarely acknowledges his own attractive looks and personality. Luckily, Jungkook is there to remind him.
“Hyung.”
“Um?”
Jungkook responds with a soft kiss on his lips.
Kissing Taehyung quickly became one of his favorite things. He can’t get enough of Taehyung’s little gasps, soft lips and warm mouth. The kiss was meant to be short, but it shifts into something more when Taehyung kisses him back almost too eagerly.
And Jungkook is just a man.
He lets his fingers tangle in Taehyung’s soft hair just when he hears a loud cough.
“Oh my, are they always like this?” Seokjin asks with a judging tone.
“Whenever I see them, yes, they are sickening.” Jimin answers as he slips back into his seat.
Seokjin is quick to sit next to him while Seojoon brings another chair.
“Babe, don’t embarrass the kids.” Seojoon says to his boyfriend.
Jimin snorts. “They are hardly kids.”
“Sorry for being late, there was traffic and there was a line at the bakery. Oh, I got you and Hoseok some cupcakes - he said he liked them last time.”
“Thanks.”
“Cupcakes, huh?” Jimin asks with a mischievous smile.
Taehyung sits up straighter.
“Jimin, don’t.”
“What?” Jimin makes his eyes appear big and innocent.
Jungkook looks between them, resisting the urge to eye roll because they are both so dramatic.
“If you’re worried about him telling me that he was the one who made the cupcakes for my birthday then relax, I already know.”
Taehyung gasps while Jimin blinks in surprise. Seokjin seems a little lost so Jimin explains the situation.
In the meantime, Taehyung remains confused.
“Wait, how do you know about that? I didn’t tell you anything and Jimin hadn’t said a word either.”
Oh, well.
“You’ll never believe this, but I’ll tell you a little story later when we head back home…”
