Set Me Free, Pt.2 begins with Jimin’s voice in autotune & this hard effect comes back halfway in verse 2. All of these parts are in a chaotic form of English The result can be challenging to hear —— plain text = sung with autotune bold text = sung naturally underline = quote

When I was in my 20s, I taught ENG in 🇨🇳. Everyday, I ate lunch w/ the other professors, not understanding a word. Then one day I could hear what they were saying—their words firmly landed into my consciousness I tell this story b/c Set Me Free has finally landed after 18 hrs ☄️
I believe this is intentional to signal his inner turmoil In the 1st verse, we also hear 2 quotes, also in autotune But when Jimin sings in his natural voice, he’s sings mostly in Korean & in his truth
When these hard & soft voices cross, there seems to be a conflict A conflict that powerfully resolves after several cycles of the pulsing chorus—“Set me free”
This song subverts traditional kpop by using its fundamentals (synthesized music, sharp dance routines & fashionable outfits) to not to please & distract, but to honestly narrate Jimin’s liberation story This is a true masterpiece
*opps
