India is a Very Large Market with over 800 Million People having access to the Mobile Internet We have an aspiration never ending Population, thereā€™s still a big market for ā€¢ Payments ā€¢ E-Commerce ā€¢ Consumption ā€¢ Gig Economy ā€¢ Penetration of Financial Products
India majorly have two types of Consumers a) Who is Loyal to Better Products, Experiences, Customer Services & donā€™t mind paying Extra Premium b) Who is Loyal to Cashback & Discount, Primarily Credit/Deal Seeker Audience, they can compromise a bit on Product/Experience
Business is somewhere in between šŸ’° If you can offer better experience at a competing pricing, you can create a buzz & successful business

Letā€™s understand this with an Easy Example ā€¢ Your Next Grocery Order can directly come from ā€˜Vikas General Storeā€™ near to your home Instead of some Dark Store owned by Tech Biggies Zepto, Blinkit, Big Basket or Swiggy Instamart
ā€¢ You can choose if you wish to order with Vikas General Store or 100s of other such nearby stores based on factors like Time, Ratings, Pricing etc ā€¢ Now you know, itā€™s the people who can get benefited and earn their living, instead of a few Big VC Funded Tech Aggregators
ā€¢ Similarly, For Food Ordering Restaurants Pay Various Charges & Commission to Aggregators e.g. Swiggy & Zomato ā€¢ With ONDC, they can get Relief from High Commission. 2-4% Instead of 20-28% ā€¢ Can take control of Delivery with 3rd Parties e.g. Dunzo, Shadowfax, Rapido etc
Similarly for Ola & Uber ā€¢ Namma Yatri is already live with ONDC is Bengaluru as well as they have a stand-alone App ā€¢ More such Taxi companies/aggregators can now join ONDC Network. Users get competing pricing & they get discovery/marketplace Win win situation for Everyone!
So apart from Major Categories ā€¢ Groceries ā€¢ Food Delivery ā€¢ Fashion ā€¢ Travel ā€¢ Hotels ā€¢ Medicines ā€¢ Home Furnishing & Services There are several other use cases and categories that have a vast potential with ONDC Integration
Another underrated benefit is Ecosystem Level Integration That means my nearest Shop will be Registered on Meesho or Magicpin But I can access them via Paytm or any other Buyer Apps Again, just like you use your SBI Account on any UPI Platform of your Choice
Major Takeaways ā€¢ Platforms like Zomato, Swiggy may have to Reduce the Commission to Sustain ā€¢ Weā€™ll see hundreds of ONDC Exclusives Restaurants, Cloud Kitchens etc ā€¢ Deliver Fee will be paid by Users mostly, Discount will fade post wider adoption. Just like early UPI Days
Major Concerns ā€¢ Refunds & Customer Service - While Aggregators created a monopoly, they also built & maintained standardisation for Return, Refunds, Customer Support etc However itā€™ll be slightly difficult in case of ONDC, weā€™ll need to wait for more clarity on this.
ā€¢ Discount - Currently itā€™s the ONDC that is funding the First Orders or New Customerā€™s Discount on Orders, in a few cases itā€™s Buyer Apps
ā€¢ But it wonā€™t be sustainable in the longer run, the actual effectiveness & stickiness of ONDC will be determined if users prefer ONDC over Traditional Platforms without any Discount
