DoD reached out directly to Capitol Police on Jan 2nd asking if they intended to request National Guard troops.
Based on the (incorrect) information they had at the time, Chief of Capitol Police Steve Sund did not see a need to do so and declinedβ¦

On Jan 4, Sund realized there was a possibility of violence on J6, and reached to the Senate & the House (both have their own Sergeant at Arms) requesting National Guard troops.
These Sgt. at Arms are directly overseen by Schumer and Pelosi.

Upon being told to reach out to the National Guard himself, Sund did so.
Immediately, he was told to go back to the βCapitol officialsβ (the same Sgt. at Arms that just denied the request) for approval.
The DC Nat. Guard had 125 troops ready but were held up by Congressβ¦

To compound this, the Mayor of DC, Muriel Bowser, wrote a letter to the Executive Branch stating that NO federal troops be deployed without the express permission of the Washington DC Metro Police.
Bowser claimed they were βwell trained and prepared to lead the wayββ¦

Following repeated calls for help, the Capitol Police were left high & dry by Congress. DC added barriers that prevented Capitol Police from acting on their concerns.
Capitol Police reported that FBI had intelligence showing there would be a riot but it was never sharedβ¦
