The chosen conduit is Osechkin who is passed material from the FSB via opaque mechanisms but who argues there are dissenters in its ranks. See for example the Wind of Change letters by a supposed renegade FSB officer https://twitter.com/igorsushko/status/1634613323533791232…
Wind of Change to Osechkin: "Good day, short and urgent - a group of mercenaries from the special unit you mentioned recently was transferred to Belarus. They were given modern weapons from FSB warehouses, with direct subordination to the commander of the group by the Ministry of Defense. Sabotage and terrorist acts under a foreign flag, according to the authors of the project (in MoD/FSB) should help force Minsk to participate in the war. Given the recent decisions of the mustachian (Lukashenko), he himself is morally ready and, I believe, is aware of the preparations for sabotage against his own citizens. He needs our help (false-flag attacks by Russia) to convince the Belarusians of this. We risk lives, but perhaps it will save thousands of others, you can publish".
Osechkin used to be a committed supporter of Russian expansionism supporting the annexation of Ukrainian Crimea. It is possible that he is being passed this material to shape opinion in the west. Why?
The post linked in tweet 1 blames Russian special forces and intelligence combined with mercenaries and is accurate. It is not the first time Russia has weaponised the truth about its own atrocities.
There is currently a drive to position Russians as sympathetic victims. Last century the tactic of obfuscating genocides and directing focus at Russian dissidents served the Russian people well.
Combined with the stigmatisation of their victims (Nazi collaborators, Banderites etc) it allowed them to occupy the role of the primary victim of their own genocidal empire.
In fact we need to reconceptualise and allow for two kinds of victim in the Soviet variant of the Russian empire I Russians killed over internal disputes about the ideology of their empire and to reinforce consent II Ukrainians and others killed in pursuit of genocide
By revealing part of the truth in the Glasnost era Russians were able to shape subsequent discourse to mask the essence of the Soviet period. The link between the mass killings and, nationalities policy and genocide was obfuscated.
Western academics were allowed access to the archives but also via personal contacts their interpretation of the career building material they were provided with was manipulated.
Without going into specific personalities the most tortuous interpretations were put on documents that clearly revealed Russian genocidal intent towards Ukraine.
So let us return to Osechkin. In 2014 15 it suited Russia to fit up Ukraine for bombing Donbas and many Journalists and human rights organisations took their narrative at face value. You know who you are.
Osechkin's post shifts blame from the Russian people and, notably, their role in the hybrid volunteer units that were used in Donbas. It creates the notion of a dissenting element in Russian society.
This in turn weakens support for the only real solution- a comprehensive military defeat of Russia. Beware of Muscovites bearing gifts. But do use his post to start taking down all the people who spread their lies about Ukraine bombing Donbas.
