Prompting Midjourney --v 6 is VERY different than prompting --v 5 --v 6 understands language much better, which means your punctuation, syntax, & grammar matter much more If prompted correctly, you can control almost every element in your image A guide to prompting --v 6 πŸ‘‡

πŸ’¬ Prompt setup: > Set the main scene > Describe the details > Describe the setting > Explore styles & mediums Adding a basic medium in your initial setup may help you better visualize results as you iterate. Keep it at the start or end of the prompt for best results Step 1 πŸ‘‡
1️⃣ Set the main scene Start w/ your basic idea. When possible, use generic representations of your subjects + a few scene details as needed. Avoid being overly specific here (think high-level). You're simply setting the stage for v6 to work its magic in the next step Step 2 πŸ‘‡
2️⃣ Describe the details Time to get specific. Depending on your subject(s), try describing materials, ethnicity, age, clothing, colors, textures, shapes, hairstyles, emotions, etc For best results in v6, use more conversational, naturally flowing sentences. Special tip πŸ‘‡
⚑ Detailing scenes with multiple subjects It helps to specify the position (left, right, middle) of the subject you're detailing & reference the same terminology used in your initial setup Syntax matters here. Good sentence structure will lead to better coherence Step 3 πŸ‘‡
3️⃣ Describe the location You can get specific here too, just know that prompts w/ many specific details about multiple subjects may get muddied by a very detailed setting description. Play with it & test the limits. If things get crazy, remove some of the specifics Step 4 πŸ‘‡
4️⃣ Explore styles & mediums If you didn't already add the medium during your initial setup (recommended), now's the time. Then, start playing with different styles for your medium. Try to be specific and avoid terms like 8k, HDR, etc. This is your chance to set the vibe!!
πŸ’‘ Ways to troubleshoot: > Play with your syntax/order > Remove "vibey" terminology > Leverage position & repetition > Use more conversational phrasing 🚫 Things to avoid: > Style buzzwords like 8k, vray, HDR, etc > Prompts that are just comma-separated keywords
Putting it all together, we get a prompt that looks something like this. Detailed, specific, well-structured, with Midjourney listening
Good prompts can be short & simple, or complex & imaginative. With --v 6 MJ can now handle much more complex and detailed prompts. If you're interested in learning all of the ins and outs of Midjourney check out my course below Cohort #6 starts Jan 9th maven.com/nick-st-pierre
