Takeaway from new #Vatican norms on discernment of alleged supernatural phenomena: diocesan bishops are no longer permitted to declare that an apparition or other phenomenon is of divine & supernatural origin. Power to do so is now centralized in the Pope: press.vatican.va/content/salast

Cardinal Fernández said at today’s presser: “Exceptionally a pope may say ‘I have a special interest in this phenomenon & think it should be encouraged.’ He would ask the Dicastery to launch a process to clarify whether or not it is supernatural. That would be very exceptional.”
