«People were beaten for no reason. They were simply abused. They beat me with their fists, feet, truncheons, and tasers. They broke everything (referring to bones)» – testimony of a
#Ukrainian prisoner of war.
This is the reality for thousands of Ukrainians in Russian captivity. Stories of brutal torture, mutilation, sexual violence, and executions come directly from survivors.
These are the "rules"
#Russia follows, completely disregarding international norms.
It’s painful to read. Many people prefer to ignore it because it’s too difficult to comprehend. But silence is dangerous. When international organizations fail to act, the only way forward is to cry out about these blatant crimes to make the world listen.
The “Moscow Convention” project, a collection of 15 stories based on testimonies of former POWs and their families, was presented in Kyiv.
Structured similarly to the Geneva Conventions, this document lays bare Russia’s systematic violations of international humanitarian law. The project highlights the grim "norms" of Russia’s version of the laws of war.
"Since the beginning of the war, Russia has been violating the Geneva Convention daily, and we see no reaction from responsible international organizations," said Dmytro Lubinets, Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights. "This is why we created the Moscow Convention: to show the world the true extent of Russia’s lawlessness and brutality. If not stopped now, this could spread far beyond Ukraine. Any country could be next."
Lubinets emphasized the need for stronger international responses, such as a complete embargo on Russian oil and gas, to force Russia to engage in meaningful dialogue and adhere to agreements.
