❝ The secret to creativity is knowing how to hide your sources. ❞
— Albert Einstein
❝ To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research. ❞
— Wilson Mizner
Let me finish with my favourite one:
❝ There is no such thing as a new idea. It is impossible. We simply take a lot of old ideas and put them into a sort of mental kaleidoscope. ❞
— Mark Twain
About creation / ai, I’d say:
• Craftsmanship is about suffering, skill, the personal sacrifice of learning a craft for years, and the value we place on a product because it was made by hand. Here, the PERSON MATTERS.
• Art is about the message of the person. Again, the PERSON MATTER—even if they use AI or smear paint all over themselves… Art is made by people, for people.
• Design is about the usefulness of the result. We don’t care about the person. AI is going to take over and dominate everything here.
• Entertainment is about how much fun we have with the result. But the person can still matter a lot if it’s our favorite singer or actor—though virtual avatars are already filling stadiums, and the same will happen with actors. But in other areas, like video games, we don’t really care who made them—we just want to be entertained.
Now, I dare you to change my mind.
