1/4: Canadian citizenship has value. Bill C-3, which purports to close loopholes in Canada's immigration system, opens entirely new ones - in particular, the ability of children to "inherit" Cdn citizenship from relatives whose only connection to our country was as visitors -
2/4: - not as taxpayers, not builders, not family and community members.
The "post-nationalism" so beloved by many Liberals diminishes the bond between citizen and country. I think that is wrong.
3/4: Canadian citizenship is not just a passport. It is a privilege, a responsibility and a bond to this country.
C-3 opens the door to passport shopping for people with no true link to Canada. The short clip from my speech addresses that issue.
