There's only two items here, but they may be weighty. Both have to do with Oakland Head Start, a subject of political tension in Oakland, while under attack by Trump who recently closed the entire region office, which includes California, Nevada and Hawaii

First item is a contract for subs for the program, its a five year contract that's being exended

Apparently, the city already owes 100K to the company---the contract would pay that off, and continue the services

Fife says Head Start is under attack from Trump administration, notes the closure of regional offices in April

Now on to accept and appropriation of the Head Start federal funds of about $13.7MM, which requires an approx $6 MM city match, which would serve 622 kids

the current enrollment is 408, of about 600 slots...rep says that numbers can grow as ed year just began

Also mentioned this is about 97% capacity, based on teaching capacity

Also going through D7 stats, where about about 20% of the HS clients are Black, and a vast majority are Latino.

I believe that last stat is for Home Base, with many families using other district centers. The rep said that if they had more teachers, there would be more centers, which is what is preferred

Fife is asking about operational costs at Parks and Rec for the program---some of the programs are held at Parks and Rec, but the rep says that there aren't charges for that.

Not making too big a point about it, but a speaker comes to meetings once in a while who speaks in confident, enunciated streams of nonsense, that nonetheless have few neologisms, and references proper names, courts, departments, laws, and personages. Its remarkable actually
