lying is something impossible for Allah [The maturidi Theologians Statements]

Rukn al-Dīn ʿUbayd Allāh b. Muḥammad al-Samarqandī (d. 701/1301) in al-ʿAqīda al-Rukniyya Said: “It is not permissible to describe God as having the power to do what is impossible. It is not permissible to describe God as having the power to commit injustice or to lie, because these are impossibilities. The Mu'tazilites, however, maintain that He is capable of them, but that He simply does not do them this is incorrect.

al-Mullā ʿAlī al-Qārī Said: “Among these [principles] is that God, the Exalted, is not described as having the power to commit injustice. This is because the impossible does not fall under (the domain of) power; whereas, according to the Muʿtazilites, He is able to do it, but simply does not do it.” Note: deobandis say Allah has the capability to lie but he will not do so, the maturidi theologians argue otherwise

al-Ṣafarī al-Bukhārī al-Ḥanafī Said: “Wrongdoing also means deficiency or lack, as in the statement of God: “and you will not be wronged in the least,” meaning: you will not be diminished. Wrongdoing can also mean harm, and it is also said that wrongdoing is to transgress limits. All these meanings return to the general idea of deviation from uprightness and proper order. God, the Exalted, is not described with wrongdoing, for He is exalted above it. For whoever does wrong, does so either out of ignorance of the proper course of justice, or due to a need that pushes him to act unjustly. But God is exalted above ignorance and need, because His knowledge is eternal, He knows by His very essence, and His self-sufficiency is essential, He is rich and in no need by His very essence. It is impossible for an essential attribute to be transformed into its opposite, because the very essence necessitates it. Just as such a transformation is impossible, so too is it impossible to describe God with the ability to commit wrongdoing. A being is only described as having the power to perform an act if that act is conceivable from that being. And because wrongdoing is not conceivable from God, it is not permissible to describe Him as having the power to commit it. Therefore, if it is said: “Does God have the power to commit wrongdoing?”, the answer is that the question itself is invalid. It is not permissible to say He does, because of the reasons explained; and it is not permissible to say He does not, because that would imply attributing incapacity to Him. So the correct answer is what we have clarified. Likewise, questions about the power to bring into existence what already exists, or remove existence from what is already non-existent, or the ability to create something identical to God, and similar matters whose existence is inherently impossible the response to all of them is as we have explained.”

Nūr al-Dīn Aḥmad ibn Maḥmūd al-Ṣābūnī Said: “According to us, it is impossible, and God, exalted is He, is not described as having power over it [i,e lying] contrary to the Muʿtazilites, for they said: He is able to do it, but does not do it. This is invalid, because anything that is within His power may be described as such, and this (injustice or wrongdoing) is impossible. Furthermore, if it were hypothetically possible from Him, then it would either be possible while the attribute of justice remains or while the attribute of justice is removed. The first option is impossible, because it would entail the combination of two opposites. The second option is also impossible, because justice is obligatory for God, exalted is He, and therefore its absence is impossible.
