🧵 Clip from the @Amol Rajan podcast Suzanne O’Sullivan says her latest book and It’s All in Your Head (2015) were widely praised. She says she is ā€œutterly unaware of toxic debateā€ and criticism largely comes from ā€œ10 people on social mediaā€.

With Suzanne O’Sullivan claiming a ā€˜large proportion’ of #LongCOVID is psychosomatic on the @Amol Rajan podcast, I’m resharing this clip from 2021 of Dr Xand van Tulleken ā€œYou can always find some doctor, some professor to give a quote to a paper saying it’s all psychosomaticā€¦ā€
She failed to mention that there was serious pushback from ME charities in the UK, including the biggest two, that wrote letters about claims in her 2015 book It’s All in Your Head that #MECFS is psychosomatic.
She also recommends avoiding social media to avoid toxicity. But with a marginalised community like #MECFS social media is often the only way to respond. Avoiding it means avoiding legitimate criticism. There are also very few #MECFS doctors so opposition is limited.
