12,252 of North Carolina's 106,704 Opportunity Scholarship students previously went to public schools. If lawmakers follow up on promise, they'll reinvest $35.8M to public schools. Majority of former public school students were white & not economically disadvantaged. #ncpol #nced

1. 11.5% of the 106.7k went to public schools the PRIOR year (not just “previously attended” PS) 2. 57% of that 11.5% of total recipients (aka 12.3k) were white, NOT 57% of total 106.7k (in the figures you’re providing). 3. these figures only list 2 economic categories (disadvantaged and not), but the Opportunity Scholarship is divided into 4 graduated tiers— the lowest income tier awards ~$8k per student, while highest income tier only awards $3.5k per student

so we have no idea from these figures how the towers are broken down between advantaged and disadvantaged; nevermind that given that there are plenty of poor white North Carolinians, so you really should avoid any inferences that equate race and economic status among award recipients
And as with the racial demographics, it’s 62% of the 12.3k that are not “economically disadvantaged” (although, again, we don’t know which of the 4 tiers that broad label encompasses).
4. Although you don’t mention it, 12.4% of that 12.3k are students with disabilities, but we don’t know from these figures which of those 4 income tiers those students come from either.
