1/There is a decent chance xAI is collaborating with the Putin regime, and that the administration is throttling frontier model companies in order to share details with Musk and Putin. While there is no positive evidence to support this yet…
2/recent internal statements by the Security Council of the Russian Federation indicate they believe AI is a matter of sovereignty, and they believe they are on the path to their own sovereign AI. The odds this is being developed in Russia, sui generis, are near zero. They have neither the chips, expertise, nor suitable training datasets.
3/Given Musk’s historical and family ties to the Putin regime, propaganda, goals, and worldview, it’s well worth keeping an eye on this vector. And we know this administration is fully untrustworthy in this regard. This is well worth monitoring, especially as xAI is left unscrutinized by regulators.
4/Here’s the SCRF’s recent internal newsletter, in Russian. Translate/interpret with the tool of your choice and you’ll see the priority they attach to AI and the impossibility they can achieve their goals without an accomplice.

5/Obviously China is likely to be assisting them also. But the idea that Musk is as well cannot be ruled out, and should be considered as we craft US AI national security policy.
6/And given the importance being placed on AI (as comparable to nuclear weapons in terms of sovereignty-guaranteeing) we already know the Trump regime has made a policy of leaking nuclear secrets. This is ultimately no different. This is what a “multipolar world” looks like.
7/And for completeness, many people are simply unaware of this background. It was skipped negligently by Musk's biographers, but is absolutely vital context.

9/And the kicker: one of the people leading Putin's "tech sovereignty" efforts is Vladimir Kiriyenko, son of Sergei Kiriyenko, the person who has been in closest contact with Elon, besides Putin. Sergei Kiriyenko also was behind the 'doppelgänger' information warfare attack.

11/And it should go without saying: no other AI executive, no matter how strange or odious they might be, has had the same kind of long-term reported exposure to the Putin regime. What does it mean that Musk has? Nothing? I doubt it.
